Publisher's summary

Just when Larue Donavan, top-notch psychic medium and bookstore owner, thought she'd gotten a vacation from ghostly visitors, her ghoul friends are back. All she wants is to run her bookstore and help a few lost souls cross over into the light, but what she gets is black witchcraft, demons, and Elvis Presley.

Oh wait, she likes the Elvis part.

A reality show is in town and wants Larue to join their team. She accepts the job, but gets more than she bargained for when, on the first day, she's thrown into a battle with dark forces. Larue has to deal with the demons lurking between this world and the next and even Elvis can't help her with this fight. This specter may not be out for the client after all. Instead, this demon is all over Larue like a bad rash.

The demon isn't the only one longing for someone, though. Larue's relationship with Callahan Weiss is in jeopardy when his ex-girlfriend arrives in town and decides to introduce herself to Larue via snail mail... not just once, but many times. This girl is definitely stalker material. She'll do anything to get to Callahan's heart.

When it seems as if things couldn't possibly get any worse, Larue, and everyone around her, realizes she isn't acting normal - even her eye color has changed. This demon may be playing tricks. Larue must use every bit of spiritual energy she can muster to save herself. If she doesn't outsmart the forces of evil, she may lose her sanity and possibly her soul.

Larue must banish this evil spirit back to hell with a little help from her ghoul friends... and Elvis.

Narrator should learn the correct pronunciation for several words beforehand

Narrator should learn the correct pronunciation for several words beforehand. I have had to rewind several times to figure out what she meant. Example: Wreaking havoc is completely different from wrecking havoc.

Great fun read

The story was great, just not enough Callahan LOL. Love the narrator's voice and that's very important when listening to audiobooks. When the voice is bad, it's takes me out of the book

Greatly unique and entertaining!

What did you like best about this story?

This series continues to keep me interested in the adventures and challenges that come with seeing and living with ghosts! The writer keeps the story fresh and does a great job of using unlikely and interesting characters such as Elvis!! Also the consistency of having Elizabeth Klett as the narrator gives the main character great continuity. Highly recommend this one.

Love the sarcasm

I've grown quite fond of Larue's sarcasm and the shenanigans that the ghosts get into. An easy fun read. The characters are developed nicely so you start rooting for them! I can't wait to hear the next!

I'm over it, I guess

I might be done with this series. Every book seems to cover the same territory for Larue and Callahan. It just feels like the books are on repeat. Larue is also rather immature of her age, she often acts more like a New Adult type character.

I really wanted to love this series, had high hopes after the first book. Unfortunately, every plot seems to be a rehash of past events. Seriously, when is Larue going to puck up on a spell causing her friends to treat her badly. It just gets old.

There is the added element of a ghost hunting tv show she does. It feels like another series I read with the same premise. Frankly, the other one does it better.

There are lots of things to like in the series and some interesting angles. I just can not take the slow pace. This is the third book and there are plenty of things left unresolved.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Elizabeth Klett, who does a wonderful job. I enjoy her voices and the energy she puts into the read. Not sure about her Elvis, a little weak, but better than many I have heard. Her pace helps move things along when the story gets stale. It might be time to investigate other series she reads.

I am sure there are plenty of folks who will love this book, for me it was a bust. I was hoping for more romance at this point.

Larue is back and this time Elvis is with her!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ghoul Next Door?

When Elvis appears. In the past 2 books, Larue has attracted the ghosts of Abraham Lincoln and Mae West. When Larue finds that the ghost of Elvis is with her, she is so excited that she doesn't know what to do.

What does Elizabeth Klett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

To me Ms. Klett 'is' the voice of Larue Donavan. She has continued to make Larue a character that you want to root for. Also, Ms. Klett's Elvis is pretty good too!

Any additional comments?

The Ghoul Next Door is book 3 in the Larue Donavan series. As in the previous 2 books, Larue attracts some ghosts that end up hanging around. This time it is a ghost that haunts her friend Mindy's attic, a ghost that is sent to terrorize her, and Elvis. Yes, that Elvis. Add in the fact that there is a demonic presence around and you trouble. Larue has to rid herself of the demon and send the ghosts on their way. Can she do this without losing herself and Callahan, her boyfriend?

I love the Larue books and hope that there are more to come. I recommend these books to my friends who enjoy mysteries with some paranormal thrown in for fun.

The Ghoul

If you could sum up The Ghoul Next Door in three words, what would they be?

Loved this audiobook and this series. This is my favorite by Rose Pressey. Had a good twist and an even better ending. I wish there's more story in this series.

ridiculous

I finished the series but I don't know why. the character talks about all her experiences with ghost hunting but doesn't do anything about the ghosts. the narrator over enunciated so it didn't sound natural. also the protagonist contradicts herself constantly. Really don't bother.

that was a struggle.

It was a hard read. Story line kept being repeated. Dragged on too long.
