About this listen

If you have attention deficit disorder (ADD), you may act impulsively, daydream, and have trouble focusing, but clinical studies suggest that these same symptoms may make you exceptionally creative, intuitive, and energetic. In fact, many people with ADD claim to have become successful because of their ADD, not in spite of it.

In The Gift of Adult ADD, Lara Honos-Webb adapts the revolutionary approach first introduced in the parenting book The Gift of ADHD to the lives of adults with ADD. Instead of focusing on your weaknesses, this book shows you how to transform symptoms into strengths to improve your relationships, job performance, parenting skills, and overall quality of life. You'll also hear inspiring stories of real people with ADD who have become successful in part because of their ability to meet the challenges of ADD and make the most of its gifts.

Realization

This book finally helped me to believe that it was never me. It was them. I’ve spent the last 50 years forcing myself into not being myself because I was told that I bad. But it’s been my ADHD the whole time! I realized early on that I was different. I thought differently. I’m very emotional. I’m in tune with others moods and feelings. I can read people. I have always known that I’ll be able to take care of myself. I don’t fit the mold. Im finally ok with that. Now, I can finally reach the goals I’ve seen in my future memories for as long as I can remember!

A Necessary Book

The perspective—backed by research and real-world evidence—this book offers needs an audience because people with ADD do not need just to be slapped with the label and given prescriptions to make them behave “normally.“ The creativity, insight, and particular abilities that come with ADD need to be given their fair share of respect. This work opens the way for that. Like many self-help books, there is an evenness in the way the information flows that, by the end, can leave a listener, wishing for more of a narrative arc. Yet, as a source of information and inspiration, this book should be a priority for anyone with ADD or any couple or family needing to come to terms with this perplexing and fascinating way so many live their lives.

pretty good book

at first it was distressing because it only reminded me of how i am, i cant afford a brain scan from Dr Amen but in the end I liked it overall so kuch im going to buy 5he hardback to give to my husband to show him how real this is, how it effects every aspect of out lives and most of all you get more of what you pay attention to. if you focus on the negative you just get more negative but if you focus on the strengths of an add person nomatter what age, you are setting them up for success!
