Story
After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

Publisher's summary
Salander is plotting her revenge - against the man who tried to kill her, and against the government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life. But it is not going to be a straightforward campaign. After taking a bullet to the head, Salander is under close supervision in Intensive Care, and is set to face trial for three murders and one attempted murder on her eventual release.
With the help of journalist Mikael Blomkvist and his researchers at Millennium magazine, Salander must not only prove her innocence, but identify and denounce the corrupt politicians that have allowed the vulnerable to become victims of abuse and violence. Once a victim herself, Salander is now ready to fight back.
Critic reviews
"With the spiky and sassy Lisbeth Salander - punkish wild child, traumatised survivor of the 'care' system, sexual adventurer and computer hacker of genius - Larsson created the most original heroine to emerge in crime fiction for many years." (The Independent)
"Complex, satisfying, clever, moral...a grown-up novel for grown-up readers...this is why the Millennium Trilogy is rightly a publishing phenomenon all over the world." (Kate Mosse)

Very well done and a good finale
The narrator is fantastic. There are some reviews here stating it’s just a recording from audio cassettes prompting to change tapes… this was not the case with my purchase. Good quality and definitely not from tapes.
The final book is VERY long. And sometimes delves a little too deep into political affairs for my taste. But all in all I loved it and the story was wrapped up nicely.

Best book I have read !!!
The English pronunciation of the Swedish last names take home the gold. The story itself was excellent so it was easy to enjoy the other aspects of this book … like the Swedish view of democracy … I thoroughly enjoyed this book and deathly afraid to read the remaining books of the serie for fear of a let down.

One of my favorite audiobooks!
Loved it, loved it, loved it!
Fantastic story supported by great narrator. I had read that some people had trouble with the recording. In all likelihood this issue has been fixed in 2011 as I didn't experience the same drawbacks. If you have loved the first two books, you will love this one even more. Just get it!

Narration
The narrator of this book is fantastic. We listened to all 3 books whilst travelling in the car on long trips. We could not wait to get in the car to listen to the book. Although the book was at time very heavy on detail I must say that it added to the suspense and gave thorough background. All three books were suspenseful and thoroughly enjoyable. I felt I knew the characters intimately.

Great production
Would you listen to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest again? Why?
Yes, I can pronounce those Swedish names.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest?
The rape seen is so confronting. The Swedish movie did it well, have not seen the English version yet. In the book it is hard to read, listening to it was horrific. This production is done so well.
What about Saul Reichlin’s performance did you like?
Very nice to listen to.
Any additional comments?
Listen to this book and enjoy.

Fantastic, authentic thrillers
Finished listening to The Millennium Trilogy - fantastic books of our time. Stieg Larsson has created intricately detailed works that engaged us through their direct style and spare prose. They seem books that depend upon the Internet, both as a central element of the stories, and as a source of background details.
The density of characters and detail of events described show Stieg Larsson's journalistic background. Together they create a the steady, grim pace leading to a series of violent encounters upon which the stories revolve and resolve.
They are long books, and have flat spots, but they dragged us in to hold our attention for 80 hours of listening.

A Compelling End To When All The Evils Began.
I am glad I listened to all three books. The narrator is excellent. Give that guy a big bonus. He had me at crucial plot moments standing still waiting for the conclusion. Will Blomkist or Salander survive? Will Erica Berger adhere to her principles? Will Millennium thwarted?
Another reviewer said it was a feminist book. I won't spoil it but that is correct in a way. I did put that aside because the story was so engaging. Listen to all three in my opinion from beginning to end.
