Two years ago, a hostile Prime Minister launched the Monochrome inquiry, investigating "historical over-reaching" by the British Secret Service “to investigate historical over-reaching.” Monochrome’s mission was to ferret out any hint of misconduct by any MI5 officer—and allowed Griselda Fleet and Malcolm Kyle, the two civil servants seconded to the project, unfettered access to any and all confidential information in the Service archives in order to do so. But MI5’s formidable First Desk did not become Britain’s top spy by accident, and she has successfully thwarted the inquiry at every turn.

Resumen del Editor
Audie Awards Winner, 2010
The stunning third and final novel in Stieg Larsson’s internationally best-selling trilogy.
Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge—against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.
Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Salander is fighting back.
Reseñas de la Crítica
“Larsson’s vivid characters, the depth of detail across three books, the powerfully imaginative plot, and the sheer verve of the writing make the trilogy a masterpiece of the genre.” (The Economist)
“The literary equivalent of a caffeine rush. . . . Larsson was one of those rare writers who could keep you up until 3 a.m. and then make you want to rush home the next night to do it again.” (Newsweek)
“Salander is someone you will never forget. . . . Anyone who enjoys grounding their imaginations in hundreds . . . of exciting pages about the way we live now ought to take advantage of this trilogy.” (Chicago Tribune)
Featured Article: The top 100 series of all time
The feeling of discovering that your favorite new listen is actually the start of a series is euphoric. That you can immediately hit play and re-enter a beloved new world, or love story, or era from history is a gift to the devoted listener. But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. From YA to horror to historical fiction, from fresh voices to seminal tales, hours of discovery await.

When Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail in 2009, Browder cast aside his business career and made it his life’s mission to pursue justice for Sergei. One of the first steps of that mission was to uncover who had killed Sergei and profited from the $230 million corruption scheme that he had exposed. As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

When Stieg Larsson died, the author of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had been working on a true mystery that out-twisted his Millennium novels: the assassination on February 28, 1986, of Olof Palme, the Swedish prime minister. It was the first time in history that a head of state had been murdered without a clue who’d done it—and on a Stockholm street at point-blank range. Internationally known for his fictional far-right villains, Larsson was well acquainted with their real-life counterparts and documented extremist activities throughout the world.

Great Ending
I enjoyed this book series every step of the way. Simon Vance is the best narrator I've listened to, which is a good thing, since it's a long series. I was afraid that with so many characters, some would be left hanging, but Steig Larson wrapped up the last book beautifully!

You have to finish what you started.
It's simple. If you liked Book 1 and 2, there is no decision. A review is unnecessary. To not read Book 3 is to live with an unscratched itch. Do it.

Awsome series!!!
I loved all 3 of these books. Then imagine my dismay when I found out that the author was no longer with us :-( But start with the first one, The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo and read them in sequence. I trust you'll love them as much as I.

A great end to a great trilogy.
There are few series out there that end well- this is one of the few. Harshly beautifully written and concisely translated, the text is truly brought to life by Vance's superior narration.

The Mesmerizing Voice of Simon Vance
Not only is Simon one of my top favorite readers, but my cat loves his voice, too. She comes running to my chair (or pillow) whenever I turn on my Kindle and she hears Simon. One evening I put on ear buds, but Shamu could still hear him! She sniffed the ear bud and then laid her head down on my ear so she could listen too.
Shamu's review is more telling than my own could ever be.

Need to read/listen to the trilogy in sequence
I can't imagine reading/listening to these books out of sequence--minute details that allude to prior events in a previous book take place through out the series and would be lost to a reader not reading the books in order. If you read the last book first, I believe a lot of the relationships would have less meaning. I loved the series and am sad that it is over--unlike other reviewers, I felt that the end of the 3rd book was an opening to the next adventure/mystery that these two friends would experience together.
