Publisher's summary

June Moody, a 30-something English professor, just wants to get away from her recent breakup and reunite with girlfriends over summer break. Her old friend and longtime nemesis Sadie MacTavish, a mega-successful author, invites June and her college friends to a baby shower at her sprawling estate in the San Juan Islands. June is less than thrilled to spend time with Sadie and her husband - June's former crush - but agrees to go.

The party gets off to a shaky start when old grudges resurface, but when they wake the next morning, they find something worse: Sadie is missing, the house is in shambles, and bloodstains mar the staircase. None of them has any memory of the night before; they wonder if they were drugged. Everyone's a suspect. Since June had a secret rendezvous with Sadie's husband, she has plenty of reason to suspect herself. Apparently, so do the cops.

A Celtic knot of suspense and surprise, this brooding, atmospheric novel will keep you guessing as each twist reveals a new possibility. It will remind you of friendships hidden in the depths of your own past and will make you wonder how well you really know the people you've loved the longest.

Wonderful Whodunit!

Who doesn't love a girls weekend?!?! But, how much do we really know about our friends, especially those we knew in high school or college?? Even more so if the most contact we've had is through social media as of late.
Throw a group for people together who most haven't physically hung out in years, add in some new characters, top it off with big emotions like jealousy and envy and you have the recipe for a great whodunit book.
I will admit I wasn't too sure of the book at the beginning. Some of the characters seemed a little too predictable and somewhat annoying. But, the author quickly started peeling away the layers and we learn that everyone isn't quite as they seem. There are plenty of secrets to unlock. Even though you know the premise of the book the author still did a great job of keeping it fresh and kept me guessing throughout the book. Even once all the excitement was over, the crimes had been solved she even unveiled a few smaller secrets that left my jaw dropping.
I enjoyed the narrators take on the authors story. I think she did a good job adding a level of emotion to the authors storyline. I read some reviews from people that didn't like narrator, if you are worried, listen to a sample, but I personally thought she did great.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre. But, also to anyone that just enjoys reading in general. This would be a great book for a weekend getaway or summer vacation.

too much

Unlikable characters and too much going on for an audio book to listen and keep up.

Glad I Chose This One

Really enjoyed the main character and the setting for the story. It's not quite as "scary," but if you enjoy how Riley Sager writes, I think you will enjoy this a lot. It wasn't the most original or groundbreaking story, but it had a good number of twists and turns. Overall, it was great escape from the current COVID-life.

The narration was great! (Although she probably wont win any awards for her Scottish accent). ;-) I would gladly listen to her read another novel.

Intriguing Murder Mystery

Kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out the mysteries. I enjoyed the character development which made the story more believable.

Bland story line

Excited to download this book to read on my girls trip. The characters and storyline were not realistic or relatable for me. It felt a little too Hollywood life! I like books which can relate to more of a real life challenge or plot line. I recommend this book for a simple mystery seeker.

Better than expected

I love a good audio book when the narrator is annimated and in tune with the characters. In this novel, I was all into the characters during all of the scenes leading up to the finale. I enjoyed this book.

Good story

Good story sadly the performance for me was awful. I found the narrator whiny and at times hard to understand with rising and falling pitch. And the men voices were terrible.
