Publisher's summary
Welcome to Cold Mountain Penitentiary, home to the Depression-worn men of E Block. Convicted killers all, each awaits his turn to walk the Green Mile, keeping a date with "Old Sparky," Cold Mountain's electric chair. Prison guard Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities in his years working the Mile. But he's never seen anyone like John Coffey, a man with the body of a giant and the mind of a child, condemned for a crime terrifying in its violence and shocking in its depravity. In this place of ultimate retribution, Edgecombe is about to discover the terrible, wondrous truth about Coffey, a truth that will challenge his most cherished beliefs...and yours.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. Story
What’s happening in Acker’s Gap, West Virginia? Three elderly men are gunned down over their coffee at a local diner, and seemingly half the town is there to witness the act. Still, it happened so fast, and no one seems to have gotten a good look at the shooter. Was it random? Was it connected to the spate of drug violence plaguing poor areas of the country just like Acker’s Gap? Or were Dean Streeter, Shorty McClurg, and Lee Rader targeted somehow?

A literary icon sometimes seen as a bridge between the Beat Generation and the hippies, Ken Kesey scored an unexpected hit with his first novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. His successful follow-up, Sometimes a Great Notion, was also transformed into a major motion picture, directed by and starring Paul Newman. Here, Oregon’s Stamper family does what it can to survive a bitter strike dividing their tiny logging community. And as tensions rise, delicate family bonds begin to fray and unravel.

The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the 21st century: They are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction.

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Incomparable
This is simply a perfect story. From the page and into my mind leapt these complex characters. The plot, setting and mood of this book is stellar. King gives us a whirlwind adventure visiting each emotion of which humans are capable.

King in rare form...
As a Stephen King fan, I find that I hold him to a higher standard than I do other authors. I love the breadth and diversity of the stories that he tells. Everything pfrom true horror and macabre, to adventure and fantasy. I love his style.
Even with all that being said, this novel is in a class of its own. I hardly recall a book where the characterization of the players was as full and vibrant as the characters in this story. I remember reading this when it was originally published in serial format. I remember waiting for the next installment… Anticipating where King was going to take the story next. I loved that experience. Almost as much as that, I loved hearing Frank Muller add his voicing to such an amazing tale. Stephen King once declared that Frank Muller was "his voice". That Frank was the voice that Stephen heard in his head as he wrote. I believe that.
This is a story about good versus evil, yes. But it goes much deeper than that. This is a story about atonement. A story about forgiveness. A story about finding our true selves and standing up for something bigger than what we found. In a strange way it's also a story about justice, even though no justice was really found here.
This truly is an epic story. And one that should be listened to, read, and pondered in order to be truly understood. Simply fantastic.

My Favorite Stephen King Book!
What made the experience of listening to The Green Mile the most enjoyable?
The characters. Nobody can do characters like King!
What did you like best about this story?
Everything. I could not stop listening!
What does Frank Muller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I like the way he changes his voice for characters. Even did a convincing job on the female parts. His voice is easy to listen to also. No weird clicks or cotton mouth smacks.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely!
Any additional comments?
Amazing!

Simply THE BEST!
Would you listen to The Green Mile again? Why?
I've rarely re-read and never re-listened to a book before, but this audio book may be the exception. I think listening to this book again would reveal new insight and inspiration with each repetition of the story.
What about Frank Muller’s performance did you like?
Each character was well developed and distinctive. I felt as if I was listening to a friend tell me the story. I have an MFA in acting, and so appreciate the art of great story telling!
Any additional comments?
Thank you Stephen King and Frank Muller!
