Convicted killers all, each awaits his turn to walk the Green Mile, keeping a date with "Old Sparky," Cold Mountain's electric chair. Prison guard Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities in his years working the Mile. But he's never seen anyone like John Coffey, a man with the body of a giant and the mind of a child, condemned for a crime terrifying in its violence and shocking in its depravity. In this place of ultimate retribution, Edgecombe is about to discover the terrible, wondrous truth about Coffey, a truth that will challenge his most cherished beliefs...and yours.

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

What’s happening in Acker’s Gap, West Virginia? Three elderly men are gunned down over their coffee at a local diner, and seemingly half the town is there to witness the act. Still, it happened so fast, and no one seems to have gotten a good look at the shooter. Was it random? Was it connected to the spate of drug violence plaguing poor areas of the country just like Acker’s Gap? Or were Dean Streeter, Shorty McClurg, and Lee Rader targeted somehow?

A literary icon sometimes seen as a bridge between the Beat Generation and the hippies, Ken Kesey scored an unexpected hit with his first novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. His successful follow-up, Sometimes a Great Notion, was also transformed into a major motion picture, directed by and starring Paul Newman. Here, Oregon’s Stamper family does what it can to survive a bitter strike dividing their tiny logging community. And as tensions rise, delicate family bonds begin to fray and unravel.

Story
The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the 21st century: They are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction.

Movie for our brains
Where does The Green Mile rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The story is very unique: I almost skipped due to the bad sound. However, I decided to give it a try. I am very glad I did! I have not seen the movie, after reading Audibles's suggestions I downloaded it. I am beyond excited. This is filled with plenty of fab images for your brain. I have yet to get the "Oh, this will be a multi-time lesson." It is too sad for me to listen to two times. It is great, and the narration is pitch-perfect.
What other book might you compare The Green Mile to and why?
" Life after death" by Damien Echols
What about Frank Muller’s performance did you like?
I understand why he was hand-picked. Great on reading Southern dialects etc.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
"Color blind in Old-sparky's lap"

Amazing story and narration!!!!!
At first I was creeped out and then I could not stop listening to the book. I fell in love with all the good guys. The narrator was perfect for the eerie story and had almost a Vincent Price edge to him. I had never seen the movie either so now that I finished the book I’m going to watch the movie tonight! Fascinating
This was my first Stephen King listen. From the start of the book I was overwhelmed by Frank Muller's voice, it really pulls you into the story and you won't be able to stop listening once you started. The plot itself was thrilling, with quite a few unexpected turns.
If you, as myself, like to step into the world of horror from time to time, this listen is a must-have.

Another Great One
I’m on a Stephen King binge, and this has got to be one of my favorites so far, although I feel like I say that about all of his books and collections upon finishing them. He has a marvel mind. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because I feel like Mr. Edgecomb could have done more for our “big boy”, without giving away too much. And I would have liked to see more happen to Dolan. But that’s the beautiful thing about Stephen King, even when his stories are fantastical, they are frustratingly realistic. *Shrug*
