Story
Brad Woods has performed a lot of autopsies, but never one like this. The body is purged of all blood. Fear has made Sue Wing run from the darkened school and into night, a fear so powerful she can only name it using the Cantonese myths of her grandmother: Cup-hu-girngsi, the corspe who drinks blood. Reporters like Rich Carter don't believe in the supernatural, but all the signs are pointing to the same conclusion: a vampire is stalking the streets of Rio Verde. No, Rich Carter doesn't believe in such things. Not yet.

Story
Daniel Martin has never forgotten his childhood encounters with Frank Watkins, the man who built his family a summer home out of cardboard and plywood. Frank's gaze was oddly confusing, as if he was attempting to discern the proper way to behave because he didn't know how to respond in a human manner. Since Frank obviously wasn't an alien, young Daniel thought maybe the man was crazy. In the end, Daniel would learn the terrifying truth about Frank Watkins. And as an adult, Daniel is about to discover there are more of them out there.

Story
In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property - complete with boathouse and swimming pool - and the price were too good to pass up. This is the shocking true story of an American dream that turned into a nightmare beyond imagining for the Lutz family, who were forced to flee their new home in terror.

Story
In a small Arizona town, a man counts his blessings: a loving wife, two teenage daughters, and a job that allows him to work at home. Then "The Store" announces plans to open a local outlet, which will surely finish off the small downtown shops. His concerns grow when "The Store's" builders ignore all the town's zoning laws during its construction. Then dead animals are found on "The Store's" grounds. Inside, customers are hounded by obnoxious sales people, and strange products appear on the shelves.

Opulent doesn't begin to describe the Arizona getaway where Lowell Thurman, his wife Rachel, and their three young sons have come for one glorious week. Everything at The Reata is perfect - although Rachel is a bit unnerved by the openly lustful gaze of one of the gardeners, something she doesn't mention to Lowell. Nor does he tell her about the frightening sensation he has in the pool of hands clutching at him, trying to pull him under.

Twenty-five years ago, Maggie Holt and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. Three weeks later they fled in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His horror memoir of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity — and skepticism.

At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Publisher's summary
The Perry family's new house is perfect - except for the weird behavior of the neighbors, and that odd smell coming from a dark corner in the basement. Pity no one warned the family about the house. Now it's too late. Because the darkness at the bottom of the basement stairs is rising.

It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Crease is known in Weaver as ‘the bug guy’, the man who takes care of insects and other critters. But what emerges from the shadows of the town’s waste plant is beyond anything found in nature. When he convinces the owner of the infamous Rotterdam Mansion to let him stay on the premises for two weeks, he believes he's finally found the location that will bring him a best seller. All in all, fairly good book. Parts of the book was pretty darn scary. I didn't care for the ending but it didn't take away from the enjoyment of the book.

A Solid Scary Story
So I really did like this audiobook! It kept me interested the entire time. Dan Butler’s narration was sharp, quick, and entertaining. Bentley Little’s writing felt very similar to Stephen King’s. That could be a good thing or or a bad thing depending on your point of view. His style is detailed and that made the characters more believable. Some of my favorite chapters actually gave us some background of the “haunting.” They were super interesting to listen to.
There are definitely some graphic sexual and gore descriptions that might upset some people but overall it was a great spooky story to listen to, especially during the Halloween season!

Very entertaining and scary.
I really enjoyed this book. The character development was more than I have found in a book in awhile. There were certain scenes I found disturbing but the book is horror so.... the thing I did appreciate was that those scenes were short and not drawn out. I did not feel like they were “over-done”. I am very surprised at some of the reviews for this book. I don’t understand why some people today are so hateful regarding other people’s creative works. If you’re reading something and you don’t like it, all you have to do is stop reading it. I enjoyed the ending. And I also enjoyed the historical fiction that was included as a backdrop for a possible reason for the haunting. I was looking for a good haunted house story that was really scary and I feel like this was exactly that. I like a book to have a good final ending and I really feel like this book had that. Though some readers obviously don’t agree with me. But that’s their right. If you’re looking for purely scary entertainment, and aren’t easily offended, I suggest giving it a try.

A dark tale full of despair that falls short
this is one of my least liked novels by Bentley Little if I have to be honest. it had such potential with the dark haunted house story that was filled with despair but ultimately fell short. although the characters were well written I never felt attached to any of them and it all seemed a bit bleak. it had moments that were nerve wrecking and then moments that I felt didn't work. The family made so many bad decisions it was exhausting. At times it felt boring but would then pick back up and save its itself. this was a decent listen bit not one I would pick up again.
