Very trite. Too many speeches

I am a trekkie but this story has way too many speeches about the high morals of the Federation.

Interesting story

I enjoyed this story filling in details between the Motion Picture and Wrath of Khan with connections to TOS and TNG. Very thought provoking story with twists and turns. Additionally, it's a very real portrayal of the dangers of working in space. You actually have to hear complete the whole story to get the full picture.

The plot unravels over many layers

This is a very interesting book connecting the present with events like Vige from movie number one and the eaner from Star Trek Enterprise. Robert Petkoff is unbelievably good at imitating the voices of the cast from the original series. I will buy more books narrated by him.

Wow! What a story !

This was a great story idea as well a clever bridge between Star Trek The Motion Picture and Wrath of Kahn.

Know the Original Series

It helps to understand this story if you’ve seen and remember most or the original Star Trek TV series. There are a lot of references back to those TV episodes.

Why won't they make a movie like this?

I started watching Star Trek the Original Series, when I was 10 years old. The thing I really enjoy about this writer is the way he brings up so many events, from the original series, and the way he describes the characters. He does such a good job, that I can actually see their expressions in my mind. I also love the way he brought in so many story threads , from the original series, and brought many of them to a conclusion. To be honest, the one thing I didn't like about the book, is that the story jumped around so much, from year to year, ship-to-ship, back and forth. it's a good format, but less of it, in this book, would have been better.

Loved it

I loved the idea of the book but I was not happy with the retcon king of the two Star Trek the original series episodes. Giving human telepathy because of a symbiont was weird.

More star trek books please

I am a big fan of the star trek series and especially Christopher Bennet. My only criticism is that many of his books are only available in German. I would love to see the Titan series and Birth of the Federation series available on audible in English.

Slow to develop but satisfying in the end

Another strong performance by Robert Petkoff. The story develops slowly and the eventual action is interesting, if not captivating. Character development and conceptual issues dominate this narrative. I’m a Trekkie and enjoy the original characters. This was enough for me.
