Publisher's summary

Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last 15 years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.

Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker's Guide ("A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.") and a galaxy full of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian, Zaphod's girlfriend (formally Tricia McMillan), whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years.

Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? Why do we spend so much time in between wearing digital watches? For all the answers stick your thumb to the stars. And don't forget to bring a towel!

Listen to the rest of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy."

Stephen Fry is incredible

If you're on the fence about this, don't be. I've listened to tons of audible books and Stephen Fry is the most perfectly suited narrator to a story I've listened to so far. It plays like Monty Python on tape. This was a very well spent credit.

I'm now a guy who knows where his towel is.

As one of the strangest books Ive listened too, with enough quirky twists and turns to boggle the mind, I can see why it is listed as an iconic title that people need to read.

Astounding!

Stephen Fry was an excellent choice for narrating this amazing book. Overall one of the best books I've read and listened to which was only made better by Stephen fry's relaxing voice along with voices for all of the characters which fit their personalities.

Brilliantly Funny, Brilliantly Insightful.

There are some topics that can only be deeply understood through comedy. The satire and ridiculousness lend itself to a very full understanding in a most pleasant way. The Hitchhiker's Guide nails it, discussing "the point" of all existence in one of the most insightful viewpoints I've come across.

A fantastically humorous experience.

I had first read THGTTG in high school when I found the rerealeased movie copy. Interested because of the movie it swept me away into its world. Now with the voice of a great narrator I was once again able to find new joy in it.

Can’t remember laughing out loud so much in a few years. Great fun.

Very well narrated too! Classic British humor. Apparently has been around for ages. Shows how little I have read (heard?)

Thoroughly enjoyed in audio.

Loads of fun!

As a longtime fan of the TV series, I was so happy to read this first of the novelized versions. Narrator Stephen Fry was superb.
