About this listen
For fans and watchers of the Beckham Netflix documentary who want the rest of the story—an explosive tell-all account of the real lives of David and Victoria Beckham.
As one of the most famous and influential couples in the world, David and Victoria Beckham have attained iconic status. The ultimate power couple have together built a multi-billion-dollar global brand. For decades, adoring fans have been captivated by the glamorous world they have created, while their unrivaled fusion of showbiz, fashion, sports and celebrity has been cultivated alongside the image of a strong marriage.
When the much-trailed Netflix documentary Beckham aired in 2023, viewers were offered an even more intimate insight into their private lives. Produced by the Beckhams themselves, the series raised many questions, not only about their success and personal relationship, but also about the ruthlessly successful management of their image in the media. Are their lives really as perfect as the Beckhams would like the world to believe?
Through extensive research, expert sourcing and interviews with insiders, Britain’s most celebrated investigative biographer, Tom Bower, has unearthed a succession of revelations that give surprising insight into the reality of ‘Brand Beckham’. Exploring the couple’s relationship, and the truth about their sports and fashion careers, their finances and their new life in Miami, The House of Beckham unravels the extraordinary reality of the business-savvy cultural icons to tell an engrossing, often astonishing story of money, sex and power.

Story
In The Diana Chronicles, you will meet a formidable female cast and understand as never before the society that shaped them: among them, Diana's sexually charged mother, her bad-girl sister-in-law, Fergie, and, most formidable of them all, her mother-in-law, the Queen. Add Camilla Parker-Bowles, the ultimate "other woman" into this combustible mix, and it's no wonder that Diana broke out of her royal cage into celebrity culture, where she found her own power and used it to devastating effect.

The Kennedy name has long been synonymous with wealth, power, glamor, and—above all else—integrity. But this carefully constructed veneer hides a dark truth: the pattern of Kennedy men physically and psychologically abusing women and girls, leaving a trail of ruin and death in each generation’s wake. Through decades of scandal after scandal—from sexual assaults to reputational slander, suicides to manslaughter—the family and their defenders have kept the Kennedy brand intact.

Who was the real Diana? What was it like to be so privileged yet so anguished, so beloved yet so self-loathing, so spoiled yet so despairing? The Princess of Wales was all these things--far more complicated, conflicted, and intriguing a person than the wildly disparate saint or lunatic she is frequently portrayed to be.

Story
This is the story of how King Charles was shaped and moulded by his heritage. His mother was the woman he always loved but could never be close to. As Queen she held the Pandora’s box of the crown and all he could do was wait and learn. In his mother’s old age, he finally received the affection and respect from her he had craved for so long. This book documents his life through many personal anecdotes from his family and his friends from the moment the guns saluted his birth until St. Edwards Crown was placed on his head and he was officially declared as the King at his Coronation.

You can’t truly understand the last decade of the 20th century without a look at the muddy, electrifying rock music that would come to define it: grunge. For such a short-lived genre—at least in the mainstream—grunge had a lasting impact on American music and culture. It also provides a unique lens through which to examine the post-Reagan, pre-internet America of the 1990s. In the six lectures of The Story of Grunge, you’ll explore the rise and evolution of the genre, tracing it from Seattle subculture to MTV and the Billboard charts, all the way to its decline and evolution into new forms.

Story
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Bending the House of Beckham
Great, gossipy investigation of fame, money, and power. The narration by Claren Saward is excellent and the Beckham family is revealed as ruthlessly ambitious at the same time that they come off as appealingly charismatic. It's quite a combination and Bower blends all their disparate qualities into a fascinating narrative.

I felt that this was an intentional takedown of the Beckham’s. No couple is all bad or all good. I still live Posh & Becks

So much negativity!
I was really disappointed in this book. I really enjoyed the Netflix series and thought this might give more information. Instead, every single page was criticizing, every single movement that the Beckham’s ever made! Seriously, it was almost painful to read. It just felt as if the author went out of his way to nitpick every aspect of their life and put a negative spin on it.

Incredibly boring
I’m a fan of Tom Bower but this was almost painful to listen to. Maybe it wasn’t the best topic for me but it just wasn’t interesting and I didn’t end up finishing the book.

I should have believed the other reviewers
Extremely negative. There was not one sentence of positivity in this book. The author paints the Beckhams as terrible humans. No person is 100 percent awful. But this book paints them that way. Don’t waste your money.

People want their illusions, as is clear by the reviews
Tom Bower is a well seasoned and respected journalist. He comes with receipts, as he’s been sued a few times - to prevail every single time, as he is, above all things ‘investigative.’ Bower gives a careful, provocative, revealing look into the Beckham marriage, which is a business arrangement; and keeps his hands off the children, except the very basics of their lives and trajectories as they glint off their parents, trying to find what might/might not work for them. It’s a picture of excess and what excess does to the human soul. It’s a clear picture of the costly ravages which illusions, publicity, and lies carefully manipulated for public consumption does to the souls of also - nations. Quite sad really. The Beckhams aren’t enviable. They’re slaves to their public image. No freedom there. No reality. No honesty. Not much love. Narcissistically looking at their own reflections, constantly: they do very little, to no good, in the world. What a waste of lives - that’re now (illustratively) echoing down generations.
