Publisher's summary
With each and every new novel, Dean Koontz raises the stakes—and the pulse rate—higher than any other author. Now, in what may be his most suspenseful and heartfelt novel ever, he brings us the story of an ordinary man whose extraordinary commitment to his wife will take him on a harrowing journey of adventure, sacrifice, and redemption to the mystery of love itself—and to a showdown with the darkness that would destroy it forever.
What would you do for love? Would you die? Would you kill? We have your wife. You can get her back for two million cash. Landscaper Mitchell Rafferty thinks it must be some kind of joke. He was in the middle of planting impatiens in the yard of one of his clients when his cell phone rang. Now he’s standing in a normal suburban neighborhood on a bright summer day, having a phone conversation out of his darkest nightmare.
Whoever is on the other end of the line is dead serious. He has Mitch’s wife and he’s named the price for her safe return. The caller doesn’t care that Mitch runs a small two-man landscaping operation and has no way of raising such a vast sum. He’s confident that Mitch will find a way. If he loves his wife enough. . . Mitch does love her enough. He loves her more than life itself. He’s got seventy-two hours to prove it. He has to find the two million by then. But he’ll pay a lot more. He’ll pay anything.
From its tense opening to its shattering climax, The Husband is a thriller that will hold you in its relentless grip for every twist, every shock, every revelation…until it lets you go, unmistakably changed. This is a Dean Koontz novel, after all. And there’s no other experience quite like it.

Story
The boxes arrive mysteriously, one by one, at Channing Manheim’s fortified compound. The threat implicit in their bizarre, disturbing contents seems to escalate with each new delivery. Manheim’s security chief, ex-cop Ethan Truman, is used to looking beneath the surface of things. But until he entered the orbit of a Hollywood icon, he had no idea just how slippery reality could be. Now this good man is all that stands in the way of an insidious killer—and forces that eclipse the most fevered fantasies of a city where dreams and nightmares are the stuff of daily life.

Jimmy Tock comes into the world on the very night his grandfather leaves it. As a violent storm rages outside the hospital, Rudy Tock spends long hours walking the corridors between the expectant fathers' waiting room and his dying father's bedside. It's a strange vigil made all the stranger when, at the very height of the storm's fury, Josef Tock suddenly sits up in bed and speaks coherently for the frist and last time since his stroke. What he says before he dies is that there will be five dark days in the life of his grandson.

Amid the dizzying rides, tantalizing games of chance, and fanciful attractions of a state fair, two teenage sweethearts on the cusp of life and love's pleasures find their way to a shadowy carnival tent brimming with curiosities. There, from the bizarre and enthralling Gypsy Mummy, a mechanized merchant of dreams and prognosticator of tomorrows, the young couple learns what fate promises for them. Captivating from the very beginning!
Dean Koontz has been one of my favorite fiction writers for years so it came as no surprise that I enjoyed this book, but I have a new appreciation for the psychological depth he gives to his characters. And Holter Graham as the reader...WOW! I have yet to hear another reader that brings a book to life as he does! I scoured Audible for another Dean Koontz read by Holter Graham, but sadly, couldn't find one. Great book, great teamwork. I've already recommended the book to friends.

Wow.
If you could sum up The Husband in three words, what would they be?

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Husband?
Author injected humor at most suspenseful fimes. The Husband is
Was there a moment in the book that particular moved you?
Identifying the hostage with the captur. Author did an excellent job making the phsycological relation intense and spell binding.
Any additional comments?
I recommend thisbook. Narrator was terrible. Sounded like a bad William Shatner impression. Was.... a... little... difficult...at... times... to ....listen...to...

This was my first Koontz book. I wasn't sure what to expect as I was told he was a "horror" writer. This book was not guesome or horrific at all. It was a very average mystery. It was interesting and at no time did I contemplate not finishing it. There are sections where it dragged, but it still held my interest. There are much better mystery writers out there like Connelly and Grisham. I found the narrator annoying at first but he actually grew on me. He read this book slowly and methodically and it sort of inhanced the plot. Although the book is not a memorable one, it's a good filler if you're looking for a quick listen.

Love endings like this!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you are looking for a good love story, this is it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Same as the title, The Husband who truly loves his wife.
What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like?
He is great with his characters, the reason I wanted this book was to hear Holter Graham again!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I think it only took me a total of 3 days, it was hard to put down toward the end

I loved the book
Prior to reading the other reviews I couldn't imagine anyone not liking this book. I love unabridged books because it is only then that you get the full impact of the story.
I thought the narrator was excellent and had a hard time stopping the book when I needed to.
I would highly recommend the book.

Would love to see as a movie
Loved this. Narration was excellent. As a movie would be difficult to mess story up.

An easy and entertaining listen
Another great Koontz story with that just flies by. Great story development and the Koontz classic "innocent yet determined" central character. You will love it if you are an Odd Thomas fan.
