About this listen

There are three rules Brooke Sullivan must follow as a new nurse practitioner at a men’s maximum-security prison:

1) Treat all prisoners with respect.

2) Never reveal any personal information.

3) Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates.

But none of the staff at the prison knows Brooke has already broken the rules. Nobody knows about her intimate connection to Shane Nelson, one of the penitentiary’s most notorious and dangerous inmates.

And they certainly don’t know that Shane was Brooke’s high school sweetheart—the star quarterback who is now spending the rest of his life in prison for a series of grisly murders. Or that Brooke's testimony was what put him there.

But Shane knows.

And he will never forget.

how can someone get so many things wrong?

i like the story. it was different and entertaining. what I didn't like was how the main character would go into a situation saying, "omg I'd NEVER DO THAT!!" and then proceed to do that exact thing. this was the theme of the book. over and over again..so just know that whatever you think the main character won't do because she says she won't... she will absolutely do that thing.

Love The Twists

As phenomenal as this author’s books undoubtedly are, I so look forward to the wickedly twisted endings that have me smiling like a loon. Great character development and pacing. There was some repetition but overall another great new book/audio.

Narration was excellent.

Great all around!

I really enjoyed this book. The narrator is great. She makes the characters very believable and relatible. So far everything I've read by this author has had me on the edge of my seat!

The Inmate

I hated the narrator speaking so sing-songy and like the main character was a child or a moron when she is supposed to be a Nurse Practitioner. Not believable that she would get a job at the prison at all. The book repeated itself a lot. I would have stopped listening but I kept waiting for something to happen. The best part of the book was the ending....

Just ok

Not that great. The narrator pronounced penitentiary so horribly every time, I wanted to scream. Book was mediocre and not that much of a twist. I wouldn’t recommend.

I love this author

I love this author, but this one had a bad ending that really did not make sense. In her other novels, you could tie in all the loose ends. This one the ending was incongruous and did not seem like it really made sense for the characters. Usually McFadden will shock you in the end, but it all ties in well. This one did not work. 88% of the book was fantastic and the last part was not good. Still worth reading.

Audio book version

U loved the story but it was really hard for me to listen to the audio book for more than 45 minutes at the time. The narration of Leslie Howard was too much for me, the way she pronounced the "s" was painful. I wish she would stop emphasizing on every "S"......

One of the slowest burns.

What a loooonnnng slow burn. It did have a decent pay off. It’s worth it if you are patient. Unfortunately the payoff is literally at the VERY end. Epilogue end.

10 stars for me.

Gripping story. Narrator was so good. Thought I knew who did it but totally didn't see that coming. Can't wait to hear the next book.

shocking ending

I started not to get this book with my credit because of the bad reviews but the good reviews made the book sound intriguing enough that I went for it. I'm glad I did because just when I thought the book went exactly like I thought and it was almost over, wow the shocking ending. could not put it down and stop listening until I knew who the guilty party was.
