Publisher's summary

John Lago is a hitman. He has some rules for you. And he’s about to break every single one.

John Lago is a very bad guy. But he’s the very best at what he does. And what he does is infiltrate top-level companies and assassinate crooked executives while disguised as an intern.

Interns are invisible. That’s the secret behind HR, Inc., the elite “placement agency” that doubles as a network of assassins for hire who take down high-profile targets that wouldn’t be able to remember an intern’s name if their lives depended on it.

At the ripe old age of almost 25, John Lago is already New York City’s most successful hit man. He’s also an intern at a prestigious Manhattan law firm, clocking 80 hours a week getting coffee, answering phones, and doing all the grunt work actual employees are too lazy to do. He was hired to assassinate one of the firm’s heavily guarded partners. His internship provides the perfect cover, enabling him to gather intel and gain access to pull off a clean, untraceable hit.

Part confessional, part DIY manual, The Intern’s Handbook chronicles John’s final assignment, a twisted thrill ride in which he is pitted against the toughest - and sexiest - adversary he’s ever faced: Alice, an FBI agent assigned to take down the same law partner he’s been assigned to kill.

Great to get lost in

The subject matter leaves little to the imagination so the narrator tells of 'his lifestyle' with serious clarity and reminiscent humor. Very relatable characters too.

Trite

Ugh! Are there any remaining cliche not in this book? This is comic book fare

So much missed potential

I loved the premise of this book. I love the idea of the handbook. I enjoyed the story and the characters. I thought the story was well developed and I found myself invested in the characters. I guess that is why I found the ending completely unfair filling. It was almost as if it was written with it being made into a mainstream movie rather than keeping with the heart of the story. I will provide any spoilers however the ending really disappointed me.

Meh

I'm still trying to finish. It's been at least two months probably more. The concept sounded so unique and interesting but just feels flat. I'm kinda sad I can't return it because I got it on a bogo and liked the other book.

Worth a Listen

l enjoyed this book immensely. The narrator is excellent - he brought the main character to life. The story hàs many twists and turns - just my kind of listen.

This was unique

Such a cool format. I really enjoyed the first person narrative with inner dialogue.
While the bravado and impossible ability to function while severely wounded got tiresome from time to time, and the total predictability of Alice was frustrating, the hook and story was enjoyable.
Reader: he did a great job. Ideal tone and tenor for the character.

Clever premise -- a little grisly at times

I picked this up for the premise -- love the concept. The execution (pun intended) was a little intense for this reader. Nonetheless, I recommend this book -- good narration and story moves along quickly. Good ending -- didn't see it coming.
