Publisher's summary

Jack Miller isn't too worried about the apocalypse. He has been prepping for a few years and has a basement stocked with the food and supplies his family needs to ride out a disaster. Today though, he is out of town on a business trip. An EMP strike delivered by a rogue nation leaves him stranded over a thousand miles away from his home. This is the last place he expected to be during a disaster. He sets out on an epic journey home armed only with his know-how and survival skills. What he encounters leaves him questioning how prepared any lone man can be.

Amy Miller is all set to enjoy a well-deserved vacation day. She's a hard-working mother of two with a full-time career and rarely has a quiet moment to herself. The EMP throws a wrench in the works and leaves her unprepared for the chaos to follow. With the city falling down around her ears, she is pushed to the limit. Her suburban home is well-stocked with supplies, but she clings to the hope that order will be restored.

Faced with the darker side of humanity, will she overcome her inhibitions and do whatever it takes to protect her family?

Contains mature themes.

Likeable EMP family story

I needed a break from the usual gritty apocalypse books. This was a feel good, relaxing read.
Sure, it's not entirely realistic, but it was what i needed. Moving on to Book 2.

Don't Go In The Basement!

You know when you are watching a scary movie and the stupid teenager goes into the basement and you shout at the tv, "Don't go in the basement." or "Look out behind you." That is how this entire story was for me. The characters seemed to stupid to have survived. Only two characters deserved to live through the crisis. I will not listen to the remaining books in the series.

Having said that, there were lessons to be learned. A listener who is new to the genre might learn a few things.

I couldn't put it down!

I can't wait to start the next book. I love the non-stop action and I can't wait to see where this adventure takes Jack and his family!

Decent story and narrator

This was a decent but somewhat predictable story. I also thought the narration was decent.

It was good

Great introduction to this genre. Builds a foundation for survival without getting to graphic with violence/language.

Solid Post-EMP tale with some good characters.

I am a fan of the genre and found this book refreshing. Mr. Winchester took an oft tired story development and imbued new life with solid character development. I will definitely read the rest of the series. I really enjoyed the narration with its change in voices.
I was especially pleased with the female protagonist's development and hope to see more from the progeny in the family.

only worth a listen if it's free for you.

If you need to spend money or a credit to listen to this book skip it. But if it's free for you then it's a pretty good time filler. There isn't really anything out standing about the characters or the plot or the plot twist. But it's not bad. my biggest criticism is that you can listen to it for hours without any real story development or character development. You can totally zone out for huge loss of Time come back and nothing has changed. That being said it's a decently written book And nice to listen to while you do other things.

Since it's free I will listen to the other books in the series and update you on how I think things progress. But like I said before if you have to pay something for it even if it's a $1.99 it's probably not worth it. But maybe that will change in later books. Stay tuned.
