Fulfillment and Joy Through the Realization of Our Essential Identity

When challenges arise in your life, what happens inside of you? For many of us, the larger the problem, the more we resist, contract, and react unconsciously. On the other hand, explains Eckhart Tolle, in any given moment we have the chance to remain open to life, align with what is, and experience the natural sense of peace and aliveness that he calls "the joy of being".

The Joy of Being is a four-session program that explores the process of awakening to our identity beyond the limits of thought and the impact this transformation can have in the world. Speaking after a three-year teaching hiatus, Eckhart discusses:

  • Working with whatever conditions arise as your guide for the continuing practice of presence
  • Using the inner body and sense perception as anchors to the now
  • Freedom from suffering - the spiritual seeker's best motive
  • The practice of "being the space" for the situations and circumstances you often find difficult

"The joy of being is derived not from something that happens or from some object but from the essence of who you are," teaches Eckhart. "To know yourself as that is joy." The Joy of Being points to a revolutionary phase in human development where thinking is no longer the dominant aspect of our lives, and unconditioned awareness expresses itself through and as each one of us.

Excellent teaching!

I agree with some others that you should read and maybe watch a Eckhart before listening to this. He is a different kind of person but he is amazing! This was great :)

The Door is Opening

I find myself compelled towards Awareness and the Space of Now. I often times would put on powerful and epic sounding music when I wanted to feel better: while driving, while exercising, or simply after feeling “lost.” Listening to this man speak naturally causes me to sense something deeper. I find that I put these talks on in the background and I’m getting closer to spending more of my “time” in the present moment, instead of lost in thought. I realize that this will not reach everyone, I wasn’t ready to listen to these words a few years ago. Just simply listen, be, and allow yourself to take in the words, even if you don’t “understand” them.

A great guide for getting present

I loved Eckhart’s gentle humour and how he guides you into and teaches presence through experiencing just being rather than having to do anything or follow some 1000 set plan to get there

I am here now ...

The sound of the words takes you beyond words and beyond sound to the stillness within. Eckhart's timeless message that you are to allow the Now to be as it is and so realize the formless essence of the Now as consciousness itself. Be there as the awareness when your mind starts saying things and be aware of the temporary nature of all forms.

Could have done without the flute music but loved Eckhart's rendition of "A Lion Sleeps Tonight".

Great retreat- distracting background.

Crowd voices/one woman’s laugh is distracting throughout, but the message of the retreat is great.

Inspiring

His style and content are truly inspired. The Presence he projects is the best demonstration of what he stammers to express. Brilliant and beautiful in every way!
