About this listen

The small town of Lakeshore was always quiet until the tourist season hit in the winter. That was the only reason for media attention...until now. Ten-year-old Katie Elkton was a sweet child, in spite of the mental and physical abuse she suffered at the hands of her father. One fateful day, Katie was found dead at the bottom of the stairs in the basement with almost all of her bones broken. Her parents disappeared. Some said accident. Some cried foul play.

Years later, a young woman with problems of her own buys the Elkton house. She moves in with her eight-year-old son Bentley, who suffers from severe allergies and asthma. It appears that Bentley has made a new friend. Katie has come back home...and she wants to play....

A Good 'Ol Fashioned Horror

Would you listen to The Lakeshore Evil again? Why?

Yes, it was deliciously scary. And the narrator had a perfect voice - baritone and a little gravely.

What did you like best about this story?

It reminded me of the original Amityville Horror I read when I was a kid - which scared the crap out of me.

Have you listened to any of Bill Johnston’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I like the suspense building over time.

This is a poorly narrated slow burn

The character development is poorly developed.
And the plot is simple and easy to predict. I was going to read this and the second part. But I’m going to be returning both books. I can’t recommend this book as a good read.
Characters are not painted real or likable, characters are narrow and hard to understand why they would do what they do? This ends up making them look like forced pieces on the chessboard they just don’t fit. Two of the main characters buy a house and pay four times what it’s worth this is never explained why they did this and it seems stupid.
I could hardly wait for this one to end and was debating whether to finish it.
Scary parts are borrowing from books like the grudge or the ring.
Also the narrator is terrible. By this I mean he reads slow in parts reading single words at a time (like Tarzan speaks), He should stream the words together in a phrase. And the voices that he gives for the characters border on humerous. The singing he does Who are the characters is out of tune snd irritating. Please don’t do that just read the phrase. I will put music to it in my head.
If you’re looking for a good scary book read the heart shaped box by Joe Hill. It is night and day better than this book.

Not worth it

The story was weak and the narrator was not good . I'm sat through it on principle but it was tough to get through.
