About this listen
This is DC Smith's third investigation with the Diver and Diver Associates agency. They have been asked by a member of Norfolk's aristocracy to look into the tragic death of her younger brother, Freddie, the late Lord Thorpe of the title. The inquest verdict was of misadventure, but it isn't long before Smith begins to suspect there has been a serious miscarriage of justice.

Loved the storyline
It was exciting without a whole lot of “action” scenes, and I listened to the whole thing almost right through in one go. It was one of my favorite in this series, and I honestly think the preview summary did not do it justice, as I wasn’t expecting it to be very interesting. It has inspired me to go back through the series once more. Love it and I hope the DC and Kings Lake series go on forever.

Struggling to finish - too cutesy
I am struggling to finish this. The story and characters are far too “cute”. And the narration is becoming so slow and deliberate that I had to speed it up. I’ve listened to all previous DC Smith books and enjoyed the low stress, picturesque, but informative storytelling. This is overdoing it completely, far too picturesque and “lovely”. The narration makes it worse.

So sad when latest one of these ends....
I am just so engrossed in this series and this latest book was one of the best! Usual highly entertaining dialogue and introspection by Smith. Complex plot. Such very likeable and fascinating characters! I used to only read, but now enjoy the audible editions read by Gildart Jackson very much! I only wonder why Masterpiece hasn't done a series based on these! Thanks so much for continuing with the Smith exploits!

Another compelling DC story

The Late Lord Thorpe was marvelous. A good mystery. A wonderful narrator. Humor. Great characters, and nothing you feel ashamed of listening to. Plus an opening for a next installment without feeling you’ve been gypped. Good stuff. I highly recommend.
