Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Tana French, author of the forthcoming novel The Searcher, is “[T]he most important crime novelist to emerge in the past 10 years” (The Washington Post) and “[I]nspires cultic devotion in readers” (The New Yorker).

“Required reading for anyone who appreciates tough, unflinching intelligence and ingenious plotting.” (The New York Times)

Now airing as a Starz series.

In the “[C]ompellingˮ (The Boston Globe) and “[P]itch perfectˮ (Entertainment Weekly) follow-up to Tana French’s runaway best seller In the Woods, Cassie Maddox has transferred out of the Dublin Murder Squad - until an urgent telephone call brings her back to an eerie crime scene.

The victim looks exactly like Cassie and carries ID identifying herself as Alexandra Madison, an alias Cassie once used as an undercover cop. Suddenly, Cassie is back undercover, to find out not only who killed this young woman, but, more importantly, who she was.

The Likeness is a supremely suspenseful story exploring the nature of identity and belonging.

“Tana French puts a clever twist on every lonely child’s fantasy of leading a parallel life when she creates an alternate identity for her detective in The Likeness.... Cassie is a character - the eternal lost child - you can really care about.” (New York Times Book Review)

A giant step forward

This is French's 2nd in her Dublin Murder Squad series, and where she made some typical freshman misteps in her first outing, all that is past by this one. Great characterizations, wonderful willingness to avoid the typical reductiveness of the genre. A great ear for dialogue, and an extremely able hand at presenting characters from either gender with authority. She will continue to deliver well crafted, bitter sweet and humane mysteries from here on out.

Fantastic

Sped through this one - the story is great and the narrator only makes it better! Make sure you read the previous book in the series first.

a strong premise

Fascinating characters and tense moments. At times the dialogue continues when action might be a better choice. This book took a long time to end.

always love Tana French!

Great story, as all Tana French novels are. I like the character development and the fact that I dont have it all figured out halfway through.

Fantastic!

Really well done! There are some plot holes that require the reader to just ignore the plausibility, but I found it to be well paced and the characters thought provoking.

My favorite!

This book is fairly reminiscent of The Secret History in more ways than one, and yet I liked this one better! The characters are enchanting and quite tangible. I’m glad we got to see more of Cassie. One of the few murder stories I’ve read that really successfully gives life to the victim. As of this moment, it’s my favorite book.

Immersive and spellbinding

Could barely stop listening to work, sleep or eat. Can’t wait to read my next Dublin Murder Squad mystery.

Addicted

I avoided Tana French for a while due to the negative reviews. I caved last week and listened to her first novel and immediately jumped in to this one when I was done. I’m addicted to her writing. It envelopes you; you are THERE in the story. She immerses the reader in the best way.
