About this listen
Follow the lives, loves and customs of an isolated community in the north Georgia mountains. Former football star, now senior church Elder, Buster Cheatle tries to thread the needle between legal and ethical as he attempts to keep the church viable for its devoted followers. Traditional beliefs are put to the test as a female visiting pastor creates a financial windfall for the little church and the disgraced current pastor continues on his path of self destruction. Will the Elders break with 100 years of tradition and follow the new pastor to fame and fortune, even if it exposes their community to outside scrutiny?

Story
October 22, 1844: "Then shall the sanctuary be cleansed" - Not a soul wanders the streets. Businesses are boarded up. Farms have been sold. For the people of Calvary—and hundreds of thousands more across the country—the end is near. Led by the apocalyptic prophecy of Reverend William Miller, the believers have spent the year preparing for Jesus Christ to return at sundown and bring about the rapture. All of his predictions have thus far come to pass, infallible as the Bible itself.

Story
The Jesus movement of the '70s was a heady time. It was a time of Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell. It was a time of the Doobie Brothers telling us that “Jesus Is Just Alright with Me”, and Norman Greenbaum singing about a “Spirit in the Sky”. It was a time when Jesus was going to return any day, according to the best-selling book The Late Great Planet Earth. It was a time of the Rapture, Armageddon, and the Antichrist. Dave Warnock’s faith took root during this intoxicating era.

There's a Sheep in My Bathtub chronicles the adventures of the Hogan family as they try to follow God's leading into one of the world's most remote and mysterious enclaves. Disarmingly honest and charmingly humorous, their tale will thrill you and bring tears to your eyes. An intensely personal memoir, this book still manages to pack a powerful dose of missionary insight and biblical principles for seeing the Church explode into life among peoples that have never even heard of Jesus.

Levi Benkert was playing with his children in the park when he received an urgent phone call from a friend asking him to drop everything and fly to Ethiopia to help organize a rescue orphanage for children destined to be murdered as part of a tribal superstition known as "mingi". In tribal culture, children and infants with even the slightest defect are considered "cursed" and are killed by their own parents, who fear allowing the children to live will cause bad luck to descend on the village. Moved by his friend's story, Levi packed his bags and left.

Wittingly entertaining
The author skewers religious hypocrisy in a witting, acerbic style as he tells the story of a small town church seeking a new minister. The characters are well-drawn and sympathetically portrayed as they face changes to the traditions in their community. If you grew up in any southern church, surely the characters will call to mind people you met along the way.
