Overall it was just okay

Great concept. But the story got ridiculous at a point near the end and I almost quit the book. I stuck it out and finished but would’ve been fine walking away.

The characters are corny

The voice actors make the narrative seem very over exaggerated. For once, I think actors who are slightly more monotone could have made the plot more understandable

Good

This was another good book by Sarah Penner. I especially enjoyed the research and information about spiritualism. The characters were interesting and there was enough shift in the plot to surprise me.

The romance in my opinion was overdone. I don't remember romance as being a central theme in The Lost Apothecary so I was surprised that it was in this book. I am not sure it added anything to the story. I personally found it gratuitous and distracting.

The Lost Apothecary was such a great book I feel somewhat disappointed with this. It was good but it was not in the same category as her first. I was anticipating so much more.

Riveting

Another stellar book by Sarah Penner. I could not stop listening. Her blend of real Victorian/Spiritualist history with a compelling plot and memorable characters is compelling.

London Sèance Society Review

I really enjoyed this book. The story was great, and so were the characters. I enjoyed the way that the story unfolded with all of the twists and turns.

Good plot ruined by unnecessary sex

I’m not opposed to sex in books but this was dropped in repeatedly and entirely unnecessarily. Instead of progressing the plot it held it back. I almost DNFEd several times but decided to use the fast forward instead. It detracted from my overall enjoyment of the actual plot and characters.

Loved the book, not the narration

I wound up purchasing the physical copy of the book as I just couldn't get into it with the narration. loved the book itself

Not as good as the lost apothecary

I had high hopes as I loved the author’s first book. However this fell short. It wasn’t horrible, but characters weren’t well developed. I wanted to love it, but it was just okay.

Intriguing and Interesting

I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book, however, the story kept me guessing what was going to happen. I recommend for a step into the supernatural and mystery genre.

I love a bisexual king and queen!

I love a bisexual king and queen! Explored the romances of multiple characters. You adore some (Remy) you hate some (Robbie). I’m heart fell and dropped for Remy. Story dragged for a bit in the middle. The ending was predictable. Read and listened to with audible. The audio book made this 4 stars in my opinion. French accent was *chefs kiss. Made for a great experience.
