#1 WORLDWIDE BESTSELLER • An intelligent, lightning-paced thriller set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington, D.C., with surprises at every turn.

“Impossible to put down.... Another mind-blowing Robert Langdon story.” —The New York Times

Famed Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon answers an unexpected summons to appear at the U.S. Capitol Building. His plans are interrupted when a disturbing object—artfully encoded with five symbols—is discovered in the building. Langdon recognizes in the find an ancient invitation into a lost world of esoteric, potentially dangerous wisdom.

When his mentor Peter Solomon—a long-standing Mason and beloved philanthropist—is kidnapped, Langdon realizes that the only way to save Solomon is to accept the mystical invitation and plunge headlong into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and one inconceivable truth... all under the watchful eye of Dan Brown's most terrifying villain to date.

Critic reviews

"[I]mpossible to put down....Mr. Brown was writing sensational visual scenarios long before his books became movie material. This time he again enlivens his story with amazing imagery....Thanks to him, picture postcards of the capital's most famous monuments will never be the same....In the end it is Mr. Brown's sweet optimism, even more than Langdon's sleuthing and explicating, that may amaze his readers most." ( The New York Times)
"Thrilling, entertaining....Robert Langdon goes for another roller-coaster ride - this time in a hunt for a Masonic treasure in Washington, D.C." ( Los Angeles Times)

I love Dan Brown's work

Any additional comments?

Dan Brown knows how to make a good mystery/thriller. I could imagine what was going on so clearly.

How does he know so much?

Dan Brown has once again thrilled me. And his extensive collection of minute yet important and sometimes secret facts is amazing! I'm left awed and feeling rather dumb. And his protagonist, once again saves the day and gets the girl. Gonna have to read it again.

Not Engaging

I listened to 25% of this story and then just wandered off to better books. Of course Dan Brown's da Vinci Code was outstanding. But this book just felt like a weaker version of the same old story. It was the same kind of bad guy. The other characters were not developing. Too bad, he is a much better writer than this.

Dan Brown never disappoints

I love this book and the narration was great. This made my morning on the purgetory road known as the 91 freeway fly by.

Great story!

Loved it! I thought that the story regarding Mallet dragged a bit before his demise! Otherwise excellent storyline.

Getting Flat

The story is fine but there is far too much detail throughout the whole book, and usually I like a lot of "backdrop." However, I felt that the author was just filling space. The story would have built up more intensity if the pace was stepped up a bit. Worth reading, just to keep up with the series, but a bit disappointing. I was actually glad when it was finished and, usually, I hate a good book to end.

Great audiobook but the ending fizzled

The story was great. The narrator Paul Michael was phenomenal!!! The way he altered his voice for each character, in particular Katherine and Sato, was amazing! Dan Brown's description of a moment when Langdon was trapped was so detailed, I almost felt my claustrophobia closing in on me! There were other moments that made my imagination go wild, I almost wanted to skip the chapter because it was freaking me out!! But for me, after the climax of all the action, it seemed to go on and on explaining every single detail of everything. Frankly, it kind of took me out of the high of the previous action. I don't actually recall most of what was said. But I'm not going to let it stop me from recommending this book and this audiobook. I would highly recommend the audiobook because of Paul Michael!! If only there was dramatic music playing as he spoke.

Thought provoking

This book had me on edge and thinking about spirituality, religion and the world around us while tying in the mystery of finding the Lost Symbol. Great job yet again on captivating and capturing his audience!
