Publisher's summary

#1 WORLDWIDE BESTSELLER • An intelligent, lightning-paced thriller set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington, D.C., with surprises at every turn.

“Impossible to put down.... Another mind-blowing Robert Langdon story.” —The New York Times

Famed Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon answers an unexpected summons to appear at the U.S. Capitol Building. His plans are interrupted when a disturbing object—artfully encoded with five symbols—is discovered in the building. Langdon recognizes in the find an ancient invitation into a lost world of esoteric, potentially dangerous wisdom.

When his mentor Peter Solomon—a long-standing Mason and beloved philanthropist—is kidnapped, Langdon realizes that the only way to save Solomon is to accept the mystical invitation and plunge headlong into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and one inconceivable truth... all under the watchful eye of Dan Brown's most terrifying villain to date.

Critic reviews

"[I]mpossible to put down....Mr. Brown was writing sensational visual scenarios long before his books became movie material. This time he again enlivens his story with amazing imagery....Thanks to him, picture postcards of the capital's most famous monuments will never be the same....In the end it is Mr. Brown's sweet optimism, even more than Langdon's sleuthing and explicating, that may amaze his readers most." ( The New York Times)
"Thrilling, entertaining....Robert Langdon goes for another roller-coaster ride - this time in a hunt for a Masonic treasure in Washington, D.C." ( Los Angeles Times)

Ok listen but too predictable

Ahhhh maybe it's just too much to expect for whatever followed DvC but man, it was a let down. Good history lesson though.

Great Listen

This listen was another awsome book by Dan Brown, done only the way he can by merging fact and fiction.

Awesome!

Awesome! I love all Dan Brown's books 👌Especially the Robert Langdon series. Almost tricked me into thinking he killed the main character at some point. 😅

as the first 2 in the series, wonderful insight!

What did you love best about The Lost Symbol?

seriously the last 9 pages to me opened up the symbols and thoughts of God etc..I loved them

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

yes, was lots of chases and mystery...

Have you listened to any of Paul Michael’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

never heard him before...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

neither, but the last 9 pages lifted me up spiritually.

Any additional comments?

great book!

Amazing book if the pseudoscience were not present

I loved the story and mason history but really wish it did not include the pseudoscience towards the end. The last few chapters of the book were far to preachy. It ruined the whole experience of this great adventure for me. I would recommend stopping a few chapters early for a great book.

Dumbed down?

If you could sum up The Lost Symbol in three words, what would they be?

Educational, interesting, slow

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The linguistics, symbology, and history of the Masons.

Any additional comments?

I'm afraid Brown seems to have been dumbing down his novels. Some points seemed to be repeated so many times that I was almost offended. At one point, I said aloud, "I get it already!"

Great Book, OK follow up

If this book was written by any other author and was not the sequel to one of the highest selling novels of all time...I think I would have rated it a five. Nonetheless, this is a very good book with a solid story. It was paced well and took me on many different turns that I enjoyed. There were some rather predictable payoffs, but as a whole a great effort!

As a side note, Paul Micheal is now without a doubt one of my favorite narrators! His character development is crisp and his tone control is top notch! A+ for him!!

Powerful New Thought Science

Dan Brown does a spectacular job of connecting so many dots in metaphysics, new thought and new sciences. This is truly a study worth listening to several times. The story is quite harrowing too, the only frustration I had was loosing the story energetic when the characters get overly involved in the instructional conversations. (A necessary flaw to explain the complex concepts involved.) Hoping he choses to expound in a nonfiction version of his discoveries.

Great shift from Catholicism Book HAHA

I really enjoy Dan Brown. I have read every book he has written. I have enjoyed watching as his writing improved and his story lines became more dramatic. He has developed into a fantastic writer. This book was well written, well planned, and well researched. The plot and theme were great. The final scenes were great and very unpredictable. I'm just sad he strayed from the church, but he sure has strayed in his movies also. I love a great book with religeous overtones, so going with the burnt out Freemason story line just left me dry.
