About this listen

A serial killer lures a beautiful FBI agent into high stakes game of life and death in this romantic thriller by the New York Times bestselling author.

The game is simple: he is the Hunter; they are the Prey. He gives them a chance to escape. To run. To hide. To outsmart him. But eventually, he catches them. And that's when the game gets really terrifying . . .

Private investigator Griffin Powell and FBI agent Nicole Baxter know a lot about serial killers—they took one down together. But this new killer likes playing games with Nic and Griff. Every unsolvable clue, every posed victim, every taunting phone call—it's all part of his plan. But now the Hunter is changing the rules . . .

The brutal psychopath needs a worthy adversary. To him, Nicole is the most precious prey of all. And he won't stop until he gets his chance to hunt her down. Now, with his partner in a killer's sights, Griff is playing for the biggest stakes of his life.

Contains mature themes.

These characters should be divorced. Still fun

The narrator was fantastic! I have avoided reading this specific book in the series for a long time, but it fits thematically with the others. Suspenseful and engaging, the long read/listen is worth the payout at the end. However I stand by my opinion Nic Baxter & Griffin Powell are far too similar, too high-handed, and get far too messy in the continuation of the series to stay married.

Interesting book in the series

Would like less graphic details of the abductions and murders but all in all a good story.

Loved It

As a Bookaholic & Audible afficianado I approve this book! I read a few reviews that nitpicked about little things, but I kept an open mind and went for it. Boy am I glad I did. I kept wondering how they were going to get through this book with that much time but it flowed easily, and kept me glued! Now on to the next one!

Great Thriller Read

I found this book to be enjoyable and thrilling enough. I just didn't like the one part of the book where the main character gets entangled into this monsterous serial killers game and she had an opportunity to sneak attack him and managed to injure him but was unable to wrestle away his rifle and opted to run, instead of finishing him off as a "trained FBI Agent" or at very least had the know how to incapacitate his eyes so he couldn't get any shots off.

Outside of that puzzling event and the fact that the FBI was unable to figure out simple clues she manged to blurt out to help her being found was also puzzling but overall it was a pretty good listen depicting the mind of a madmen playing his twisted (cheating by utilizing trackers) hunting game.

Enjoyed overall

While the first chapter turned me off and I decided against the book. I listed to two others. Then by mistake I started this one again instead of the other book I listened to the first chapter of. However, it got much better the longer I listened. The character development was a bit odd. Griff was a bit of an obnoxious well to do womanizer and then suddenly falls in love and becomes a faithful, dedicated to the relationship with one women. Not quite believable, but still a chick type - happily ever after ending.
