Publisher's summary
It’s been two years since the vampiric virus was unleashed in The Strain and the entire world now lies on the brink of annihilation. There has been a mass extermination of humans orchestrated by the Master - an ancient vampire possessed of unparalleled powers. The future of humankind lies in the hands of a ragtag band of freedom fighters - Dr. Eph Goodweather, Dr. Nora Martinez, Vasiliy Fet, and Mr. Quinlan, the half-breed offspring of the Master who is bent on revenge. It’s their job to overturn this devastating new world order. But good and evil are malleable terms now, and the Master is most skilled at preying on the weaknesses of humans.
Now, at this critical hour, there is evidence of a traitor in their midst... And only one man holds the answer to the Master’s demise, but is he one who can be trusted with the fate of the world? And who among them will pay the ultimate sacrifice - so that others may be saved?Listeners also enjoyed...

In this sweeping, threaded narrative of the global phenomenon known as the Vampire Wars, mankind is unwittingly infected by a millennia-old bacteria unknowingly exhumed by a scientific expedition in Antarctica. Now, in some rare cases, a person’s so-called junk DNA becomes activated. Depending on their racial and ethnic heritage, they begin to manifest one of the many diverse forms of the "others" that are the true basis for the legends of supernatural creatures. These aren’t your usual vampires and werewolves - it goes much deeper than that.

As knights and their sentient weapons begin dying, Matt teams up with other hunters of his kind such as LUIZA, a woman with a conquistador blade; ALLAN, an Englishman with an Egyptian khopesh; MALCOLM, a voodoo priest with a sanctified machete; and TAKAIRA, a naginata-swinging Samurai.

Satisfactory ending
What made the experience of listening to The Night Eternal the most enjoyable?
I really like the firm resolution to the story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Night Eternal?
The ending. That was the best part of the book. Also, I enjoyed how some of the background was explained in more detail.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Daniel Oreskes?
Yes, but I don't think he was the most effective narrator for this book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Probably not. There were definitely some boring areas that made me want to put it down for a while.
Any additional comments?
I think the book could have been a little shorter. Some parts seemed a bit forced and long.

Waste of a good
The first two built up the vampires as a virus, something that could exist in the real world. The last book undoes all that by making it secretly supernatural. I have nothing against supernatural but but why play up a scientific explanation for two books just to throw it all out.
That alone would bad enough but the characters are unlike able, deus ex machina is strong and at the end, god fixes everything. I just hope hope the show ends better.

Loved the Trilogy!
I had read all 3 of these books before I listened to them. The narrator is excellent. However, I found the story line in this last book a little off from the first books. But still a great listen!

Really good book; awesome narration.
The concluding chapter to this saga unfolds exactly the way it should have, echoing the bleak reality in which the characters currently find themselves. Awesome ending to a refreshing take on the vampire genre, and the performance of the narrator was superb.
