About this listen

Georgiana Darcy has gone missing. Lizzy Bennet knows just what to do to find her.

‘Tis no secret that Lizzy Bennet has dreams. The uniquely talented daughter of a woman with a dubious reputation, Lizzy knows she must make her own way in a world that shuns her.

Fitzwilliam Darcy carries the stains of his family’s dishonor upon his soul, and only by holding himself to the strictest standards has he reclaimed his place in society.

If his 15-year-old sister cannot be found quickly, her scandal could destroy years of perfect behavior. Lizzy is willing to join the pursuit to get what she wants, but will Darcy be willing to trust her with his secrets? And what will they do when the search for Georgiana reveals what neither expected to find?

This Pride and Prejudice variation is two stories in one book. The first book starts in Ramsgate with the disappearance of Miss Darcy and follows the adventures of Elizabeth Bennet as she seeks to find her. In the second book, our favorite couple has recognized their feelings for one another, but more surprises and challenges still await them at Pemberley.

unique, good flow, wonderful romance

I loved this book. Julie Cooper had already become a favorite when I found it, so the choice was easy. The story is very original, as hers always seem to be, and yet capture ODC in such a way as to hold me as an Austin fan.

One of the Best Variations

This is one of the most wonderful P&P variations I’ve read - especially for a first effort! I love that it’s a long novel that takes the time for the development of the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth intertwining creative events to bring out their characters. I like that Elizabeth is an artist. It’s also nice that it includes one of Darcy’s parents. Bravo!! Can’t wait to read the next one!

Epic Tale

Lillian Rachel excelled in her narration and allowed me to lose myself in the story. She adjusted her voice to the many different characters and gave the book the right cadence at every time. I recommend the audiobook version of The Perfect Gentleman.

I loved this version of Elizabeth and Darcy. She shines like never before she was clever, witty and talented!!

I’d love to see a variation with depicting Elizabeth navigating Mayfair and winning over the tin with her supreme witt, manners and talent.

Quite Refreshing

The Perfect Gentleman is a very refreshing PNP variant. The storyline centers quite significantly around ODC and Georgiana instead of the whole Bennet family. Elizabeth's mother, father and older sister are introduced to the story instead of the whole cannon family. But they are more place holders to explain Elizabeth's circumstances. There's no real significant interaction with them in the storyline.
Darcy and Elizabeth have a brilliant meet-cute and the attraction is almost immediate on both ends but circumstances keep ODC apart for about half the book. I really enjoyed the their struggles and how they overcame them.

So much too-long dialog!!

I enjoyed this to a point, because I'm flat out addicted to P&P variations. But the story was so long and convoluted that at one point I wondered if I was still listening to the same book. I think my strongest objection is to the narrator, because Elizabeth sounds more strident than sprightly, so that that tone becomes repetitive and eventually disappointing. Nonetheless, you may love it! It's a lot of P&P in one book!

Great story.💘

Gave it only 4 stars because the narrator's voice was so grating on my nerves I could not listen for long stretches. The author did a fantastic job coming up with a unique p p
A d p variation. I 'll look forward to the next book hopefully with a different narrator

Excellent interesting story

I very much enjoyed this book. It was different from most of the P&P variations and I was not sure I would like it, but wow, I did! I love the interaction between this Darcy and Elizabeth. Elizabeth was particularly likable. The two bond during a road trip looking for missing Georgiana.

Julie Cooper is a very good writer. She pulled me into the story almost immediately. I am now going to read another of her P&P variation books, Tempt Me. It also gets high ratings.

A must read P&P variation

I’ve read perhaps fifty P&P variations, and this one is a top 5!

Elizabeth Bennett pulls no punches. She is fearless. She is unapologetic.

In this variation, the reader is treated to a refreshing take on characters who are handed a different lot in life.

This is a story about girl power. About a mother doing what she must to feed her family. About being street smart and well read. About using your wits. About fighting back. About a sheltered woman who finds courage to outsmart those whom were to ruin her. About a woman who feels family ties were more important than reputation.

Oh. And it’s also a fabulous love story. It’s a suspense novel. It’s an edge of your seat thriller.

I found the narration phenomenal. None of that British aristocracy accent. Nope. This Elizabeth is a firebrand.

This is a must read whether you’re a Pride and Prejudice fan or if you’ve never read Jane Austen in your life.
