About this listen

With its emphasis on traditional values, family, faith, military service, good manners, small government, and independent-minded people, the South should certainly rise again.

Far from being the backwater of prejudice and ignorance that the liberal media would have you believe, the South has always been the center of American culture. From the founding fathers (Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and many others) to the frontiersmen who tamed the West, to the country music and NASCAR-loving, Bible-thumping heart of "red state" America, the South is the quintessence of what's original, unique, and most loved about American culture.

Somewhat more lighthearted than expected…

And as a big fan of the politically incorrect histories… I had hoped for a more “in your face” rendering. Nonetheless, the volume is filled with truisms, facts and anecdotal references that made this patriotic and southern heart happy.

Bold and Straightforward

This is not a story for those who have ascribed to today's mentality of ignoring facts to accept fiction instead. Well-written and well-researched book of facts with candid commentary of the writer. Not for thinned-skinned readers!

Awesome information!

I've spent most of my 55 years in Western New York but I've always felt southern at heart. I thought I knew the south and its history...I've learned so much from this book that I now want a hard copy to refer to when I need information. open your mind and listen!

There's a Lot of Good Things Going on Down South!

Author Clint Johnson, gives us a different perspective on the South and the roles that the South played in shaping America. Since the Southern Confederates lost the "Civil War", we tend to hear only the points of view of the victorious North, but everything isn't always what it seems.

This book brings out the facts of a lot of people who played significant roles in trying to prevent the country from entering into the war in the first place. The treatment of slaves, by both the North and South, and the roles that so many enslaved people had in shaping our country... that they were willing to fight for, on both sides.

With all of the recent books and movies about President Lincoln and his greatness... was he really all that great? Was he our greatest President? What were his true motives for enacting the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the slaves? I know what the "history books" tell us, but now I know so much more.

The South has been on the move for a while now as it is attracting a lot of the Northern population and companies down that way over the last several decades. Hopefully, our country has learned it's lessons form the past as we now watch over countries around the world fight for their independence. Let's learn from history, but seek out different perspectives on history too so that you have a broader perspective.

You’re welcome America.

Open your mind and take a listen. Each story has two sides (at least) the South is more than what you were forced to remember in high school. Perhaps you were taught a fairytale about us and our forefathers. Perhaps you will take a new look at things. Or, you may just say something about “traitors/stupid/uneducated/Etc. Redneck, racist, Etc. So forth and so on” to your cat and/Twitter account.
Bless your heart.

Great audio!!!!!!

Even though I’m a Yankee, born and raised in Minnesota. I’ve had many friends from the south and married a woman from Georgia! I have the utmost respect for the entire U.S.A. and I especially love and admire the patriotism of the southern states!!!

Something different..

I enjoyed this story. The narrator was great with her accent and expression she brought the story to life. Info was well thoughtout. I was looking to get out of the news cycle and this worked wonders. Thank you.
