Acerca de esta escucha

He was a survivor - a wanderer who traded tales for food and shelter in the dark and savage aftermath of a devastating war.

Fate touches him one chill winter’s day when he borrows the jacket of a long-dead postal worker to protect himself from the cold. The old, worn uniform still has power as a symbol of hope, and with it he begins to weave his greatest tale, of a nation on the road to recovery.

This is the story of a lie that became the most powerful kind of truth. A timeless novel as urgently compelling as War Day or Alas, Babylon, David Brin’s The Postman is the dramatically moving saga of a man who rekindled the spirit of America through the power of a dream, from a modern master of science fiction.

Better than the movie

As most book this one is better than the movie. I really enjoyed the character conflict and moral dilemma that occurs through out the book. Great story and great message about communication, cooperation and leadership.

A message for our time

Wonderful story about who men and women can become. See many aspects of what humans face today.

Enjoyed it, but kinda fell apart at the end

The narration is well done. The author does a good job at scene setting, and describing locations. I really enjoyed the first half of the book, then, about 3/4 of the way through I started loosing interest. I believe it was the point of bringing in super human soldiers as “survivalist” that I lost interest. The initial story line is great with many good characters and development, however some things didn’t need to be added to make them more scary or unbeatable. Humans, without enhancements, are the scariest thing on this planet. (More is less, less is more).

outstanding naration, inspiring story

It's full of hope in a time of darkness and the unknown. It's a deeper look into desperation and how one man's selfish escapades to survive turned into a beacon of hope for humanity.

great modern rendering

Second time I have listened to this and enjoyed the story even more. A modern movie of this would be interesting.

First of all, my wife and I saw the movie, with Kevin Costner many years ago (in 1997). We liked it, but it had its flaws.

The book is different. Like in all adaptations, there are some storylines that work better in print and some storylines that work better in visual formats...and in both the movie and the book...there are just some storylines that could've just been better executed.

I liked the protagonist, Gordon. I felt for him. I wanted him to succeed. BUT, by the end of the story, I was just glad it was over. I don't know why, but I fell out of love with the story. Sorry.

I liked it enough to keep going, but when I turned that last page...I could set it down with satisfaction that I'd finished it...but also that I was glad it was over.

Partially, because dystopian stories bring you down. Our own time is depressing, and knowing that there will be another possible time where things are THAT much worse isn't a comfort...but the characters in the story usually lift you up. In this story, really, there was ONLY Gordon. I really only cared about his plight.

So...I will probably never read the book again...though I'm glad that I finally picked it up (once I realized that The Postman movie had been an adaptation). I rated the book at 3.75 Stars and the movie at 3.0 Stars...so that's a plus (I guess).

Great story.

As normal movies leave so so much of the story out. This was a great telling of a post apocalyptic world. I think anyone who enjoys post apocalyptic tales would enjoy reading this book. I really like hopeful views on humanity.

mail must go through

David Brin is good writer who has done wonders with this effort. The postman in this story has pulled all his country together in a small way, and it is almost a mirror for what happens today. The power used today is the greed of our leaders and the lies they tell to keep that power. FBI, CIA, Justice, and all those directly under the Executive branch are all in need of a revolt of the good men to break the hold on us all. To much power was created by expanding government and adding sick minds to the rolls doing as told for the powerful. Even the media of all stripes has joined the ranks of those wanting to control the people. Some day this may be repaired by the people for the people. We now know how far and fast the poison can spread but not "for the people" but against us.
