The villainess is back!

Follow the further adventures of the villainess Capricious Whim as she suffers the consequences of killing the double-crossing fixer who had set her up. It's hard being a villain...and even harder when the local contacts think you could be out to get them. Realizing she needs to have someone to watch her back and negotiate jobs for her, Caprice is in a sticky situation...but she needs the perfect partner.

Enter Regulus, a villain from the "bad old days". The psychic operative has got the experience, subterfuge, and brutality she needs to succeed in her goals. In him, Caprice meets her equal in power, bloodlust, and desire. A meeting between their minds results in a dark, dangerous passion, a thirst unable to be quenched with just one drink.

There's only two problems...he's an interdimensional fugitive from Axis Earth, an alternate dimension where the Axis powers won World War II, and his help comes with a price. When Caprice agrees to help him get free from the hunters who pursue him, a seemingly straightforward task becomes complicated...fast.

Dark and erotic

With this book being longer than the first, I was hoping for deeper content. I was disappointed. Although the erotica and the dark violent content met the mark hands down, I wish there had been a deeper story line.

Great second entry to a fun series

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is the second in the Villainess series and didn't disappoint. Basically picks right up where Queen of Swords ends. It was just as action packed, steamy, and entertaining as the first. On to book 3!

An Action Packed Macabre Erotica Read..

Any additional comments?

My best advice is to go into of this book without any expectations.

This book is an action packed macabre erotica read.

Prince of Cups starts off right where book one ends.

Caprice is the sociopath that you would love to hate but there is something about her that is.. enthralling.

The reader learns a little more about Caprice's world and also a about her parents.

There are ramifications for her actions in the first book, so, Caprice decides that she needs a partner, and chooses Regulus, the Prince of Cups. She sets off to find him.

When Caprice and Regulus finally meet, their encounter is explosive. The fact that Caprice and Regulus both are telepaths or rather telepathic, is only one of the many things that they have in common.

There are a couple of new characters introduced in this book, Malech, Nacht Sirene and of course Regulus..

Regulus is from an alternate Earth, where magic and meta humans exist.
The alternate Earth exists on a different timeline, meaning there are two stories unfolding simultaneously in an alternate reality.

This second book, The Prince of Cups, in Villainess the series, definitely had a few twists that had me wondering about Book Three and a possible Book Four?

Rebecca Wolfe did an excellent job with the narration, her voice.. IS "Caprice"

Not for Me But...

If you’re into dark fantasy with twisted characters who have all kinds of preternatural gifts, sexual appetites, and the most colorful (profane) methods expressing themselves, then this may be the book for you. The violence is graphic, the language is very strong, and the sex is woven in every aspect of the narrative. In fact it drives the narrative. In her defense, the author provides appropriate warnings. It is not uncommon to have some sex, violence and expletives in literature whether it is fiction or non-fiction, so my expectations were a bit under the bar of reality. I was surprised at the sheer volume of it in this story.

There is an interesting narrative underneath all layers of crusty crassness. The story weaves through alternative dimensions and significant historical points of time, and each character has at least a of badness so there is a constant fuzzy nothingness between right and wrong, good and bad. The protagonist herself is a bad girl who uses sensuality and her ability to read minds to control others, including a super-soldier with whom she partners. If you can get past the brutal sex and foul language to enjoy an okay fantasy with an equal mix of action packed-ness and clever dialogue, this might be worth it. Otherwise, I would say skip it. I probably would not continue this series or pick up another listen by the author because of my personal preferences, but that is not to say she is not good at her craft for the genres of this book.

The narrator’s reading was good for this story. My only quip is that she inserted pauses at odd times, which made me think she was turning a page or looking for a line she’d lost. In the midst of listening, I had often found myself wondering what had happened to her instead of paying attention to what was happening in the story. The pauses were a bit of a distraction.

Sassy, Sexy, Dark and Dirty

I love how Caprice's story keeps unfolding. She's the perfect (ok maybe not perfect but pretty awesome) example of how a woman can do things her way and still be happy. I love how the story keeps moving forward and unfolding. Yes the story is dark and dirty, but that's what I love about it. The new characters showing up are awesome and bring so much to the story. I couldn't imagine this going any other way. Rebecca does such an awesome job and she adds so much sass to one of the sassiest characters you just have to love.. I can't wait to see what else Alana and Rebecca have in store.

Welp, this too is erotica.

What disappointed you about The Prince of Cups?

The book 1 of this series was very short (~2 hours?) while this one is ~7 hours long. So, I was expecting that the storyline will improve in this book, there will be some actual substance to the story. But sadly, even this book is filled with sex and profanity. I'm wondering whether the author thins only these two things define a villainous character. Not a chapter goes by where someone isn't banging someone else, graphically or expletives aren't raining.

Would you ever listen to anything by Alana Melos again?

I had got first three books of this series, all together. I've already reviewed the first book and this is the second book review. After this, I will review the third book too. That'll be the last one.

Did Rebecca Wolfe do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Narration was alright.
