About this listen

The bestselling author of Percy Jackson and the Olympians takes on ancient Egypt in the first book of a trilogy that offers a modern-day portal into a rich fantastical world of ancient myth.

"Fans of the Riordan magic—equal parts danger, myth, and irreverence—will embrace this new series with open arms."—The Horn Book

#1 New York Times best-seller Rick Riordan, a master at making mythology fun and relevant, takes on ancient Egypt Told in two points of view, one male and one female.

Combines witty, relatable heroes, gods and monsters, prophecies and curses, and non-stop action.

Ideal for middle grade listeners, but older listeners will enjoy it, too.

Soon to be adapted into a movie for Netflix, with Rick attached as producer.

Since their mother's death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane. One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a "research experiment" at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives. Soon, Sadie and Carter discover that the gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them—Set—has his sights on the Kanes. To stop him, the siblings embark on a dangerous journey across the globe—a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family, and their links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs.

Brilliantly worded. The details & references were masterfully interwoven. The beginnings of an amazingly engulfing world awaits.

Something that stood out to me was the amount of humor put in the book.

I love the way you can relate to all of the characters, and how realisticly Riordan portrays Sadie's and Carter's emotions

Story is good but the chapters are wrong.

When i play chapter 18 it says chapter 17, which makes me anxious that I’m going to miss something

Great book!

I absolutely love this book! I thought the overall story was enticing, and I loved the way the readers made it sound like Sadie or Carter were narrarating the whole thing. Would recommend this book to reader who would like an adventure!

Well written story about the gods again

The story was great, the setting was great, the setup was great, the only thing I even disliked about bit, and not really even disliked but was like ugh I wish this was better, is Sadie’s narrator, Carters narrator does voices and set a really good tone. But Sadie’s is exactly the same every time, and it’s very loud and abrupt, which makes sense for the character. Anyway great book!

The best narrators in an already great story

I have been waiting for this book to get an audio version since the 2nd and 3rd were in the series. This one was worth the wait. It's the best of all three as far as narration is concerned. I love the rich Egyptian details in the story, as well as the different points of view that provide better perspective than a single narrator. This is the book that literally got my son to like reading. I couldn't recommend it more highly.
