Story
Set in a lethal pro football league 700 years in the future, THE ROOKIE is a story that combines the intense gridiron action of "Any Given Sunday" with the space opera style of "Star Wars" and the criminal underworld of "The Godfather." Aliens and humans alike play positions based on physiology, creating receivers that jump 25 feet into the air, linemen that bench-press 1,200 pounds, and linebackers that literally want to eat you. Organized crime runs every franchise, games are fixed and rival players are assassinated.

Story
Few know the warship’s actual name. But everyone has heard the rumors. The PUV James Keeling can do something no other vessel in existence can do—slip into another dimension, travel undetected, then re-emerge onto our plane and surprise enemy targets. But the thing that makes the Crypt unique also makes it a nightmare for those onboard; interdimensional travel causes hallucinations, violent behavior, and psychotic breakdowns. Keeling could be the Union’s greatest weapon, a game-changing asset that can defeat the bloodthirsty zealots of the Purist Nation, the Union’s mortal enemy.

A teenage girl awakens to find herself trapped in a coffin. She has no idea who she is, where she is, or how she got there. Fighting her way free brings little relief - she discovers only a room lined with caskets and a handful of equally mystified survivors. Beyond their room lies a corridor filled with bones and dust but no people and no answers. She knows only one thing about herself - her name, M. Savage, which was engraved on the foot of her coffin. She finds herself in charge. She is not the biggest among them or the boldest, but for some reason the others trust her.

Story
From idyllic small towns to claustrophobic urban landscapes, Mallory Viridian is constantly embroiled in murder cases that only she has the insight to solve. But outside of a classic mystery novel, being surrounded by death doesn’t make you a charming amateur detective, it makes you a suspect and a social pariah. So when Mallory gets the opportunity to take refuge on a sentient space station, she thinks she has the solution. Surely the murders will stop if her only company is alien beings. At first her new existence is peacefully quiet…and markedly devoid of homicide.

A new urban fantasy featuring a man working on the right side of the law - with talents that come from left field. Psychometry - the power to touch an object and divine information about its history - has meant a life of petty crime for Simon Canderous, but now he's gone over to the good side. At New York's underfunded and (mostly) secret Department of Extraordinary Affairs, he's learning about red tape, office politics, and the basics of paranormal investigation. But it's not the paperwork that has him breathless.

Let's do space football and a detective story.
I no joke have listened to this book a total of 6 times now. What can i say. It's just plain fun to listen to. So why don't you buy it and see if you like it. like all the other novellas you don't need to listen to the main series but it dose spoil a bit of it if you do this first and not listen to the main series.

See the Siglerverse Through New Eyes
If you could sum up The Reporter in three words, what would they be?
Save Ju Tweedy!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Tarat the Smasher is a great source of comedic relief in the main series, and in The Reporter we finally get a deep look into his character, as well as this spin-off book's primary protagonist Yolanda Davenport.
What about Scott Sigler’s performance did you like?
Only Scott can do justice to many of the characters' voices, like Tarat the Smasher, and John Tweedy.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, because his podcasts are spaced weekly--buying this audiobook was a way for me to blast past the cliffhangers!
Any additional comments?
What is amazing is the way that Scott Sigler has opened up his Sci-Fi world to other authors, and kept enough of his hand involved to guarantee consistency. While the main timeline of his GFL series moves ahead (both on and off the field) primarily through Quarterback Quentin Barnes’ eyes, this spin-off novel fleshes out a portion of the seven-book story arc through Reporter Yolanda Davenport’s perspective. Author Mu Lafferty did a seamless job and the audiobook is voiced by Scott, so it feels exactly right.

An excellent addition to the GFL universe!
Where does The Reporter rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Definitely near the top, but I would not recommend it to listeners who are not already familiar with the GFL universe. This novella flushes out the future Scott has built beautifully, but I doubt it would be very enjoyable for someone not familiar with all of the characters and intrigue of the world established in the core GFL novels.
What did you like best about this story?
It had a slightly different tone than other stories Scott has written in the GFL universe. I assume this is Mur Lafferty's influence on the novella, and it was refreshing to hear the GFL universe presented slightly differently than I was used to. It's still instantly recognizable, but subtly changed in an intangible way.
What about Scott Sigler’s performance did you like?
His performance of his own characters is always excellent. He brings them to life as no one else can.
Any additional comments?
If you're a fan of Scott's GFL novels, this is absolutely worth a credit.

Strong Female character in an intriguing whodunit
The audiobook has just been released for this novella that came out a few years ago, and it was worth the wait. The story itself is gold. Gritty detective work and a great slot story that fits in between events that we've already read about in Scott Sigler's The All-Pro GFL novel. These GFL novellas are just loads and gobs of candy; they're well-written and expand on minor-er characters, even introducing great new ones.
This book is an investigate reporter whodunit with lots of plotting, scheming, murder, suspense, thrills, spills and just plain fun. Co-written by the inimitable Mur Lafferty and Scott Sigler, it's a great piece of work that even provides motivation and insight to the core novel from which it has spawned.
The audio production is top-shelf, with crowd noises and the familiar attention to detail found throughout all of Scott's GFL books. This is the second novella to get the audiobook treatment, and I hope the rest of them aren't too far behind. It's great to hear Sigler himself reading the story, with all of his great vocalizations that we've come to know and love.
