Resumen del Editor

Now celebrating the 42nd anniversary of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, soon to be a Hulu original series!

“Douglas Adams is a terrific satirist.”—
The Washington Post Book World

Facing annihilation at the hands of the warlike Vogons? Time for a cup of tea! Join the cosmically displaced Arthur Dent and his uncommon comrades in arms in their desperate search for a place to eat, as they hurtle across space powered by pure improbability.

Among Arthur’s motley shipmates are Ford Prefect, a longtime friend and expert contributor to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy; Zaphod Beeblebrox, the three-armed, two-headed ex-president of the galaxy; Tricia McMillan, a fellow Earth refugee who’s gone native (her name is Trillian now); and Marvin, the moody android. Their destination? The ultimate hot spot for an evening of apocalyptic entertainment and fine dining, where the food speaks for itself (literally).

Will they make it? The answer: hard to say. But bear in mind that The Hitchhiker’s Guide deleted the term “Future Perfect” from its pages, since it was discovered not to be!

“What’s such fun is how amusing the galaxy looks through Adams’s sardonically silly eyes.”—Detroit Free Press

Martin Freeman is brilliant. His change of accent are terrific. Well worth a listen.

You know, that guy... or maybe you don't.

Any additional comments?

I love how all of the reviews I've seen refer to Martin Freeman simply as "the narrator." In case you were tragically unaware, he played Arthur Dent in HHGTTG the movie... Which is why they chose him to narrate. Stephen Fry narrated parts of the movie. Granted, I do prefer Stephen Fry to Martin Freeman, but it's not like he's just some guy out of left field either. Maybe if more people realized he was in the movie, they would've given him more of a break.

Apparently Zaphod is George Castanza

Loved the book of course, but apparently Martin Freeman decided Zaphod should sound like George Castanza from Seinfeld which bothered me throughout the book. And Zaphod's great grandfather is Bill Cosby. Still overall well done.

I don't know...

It sure is hilarious, but the story is so filled with absurdities that it just seems too random for me to care about what would come next. It didn't connect with me. I must be the only one who thought this, though.

Martin Why!?

Another excellent entry in the series, but that Beeblebrox voice is a terrible change. I'd still recommend it.

Great story but Zaphod’s voice is awful

It makes no sense to me that Zaphod’s voice is a bad impression of an American. The other voices are great and the humor and adventure are as good as the last installment.

Entertaining

This book was very entertaining, just like the first. The end of it got a little less interesting as a lot of the plot seemed to drag on.

An Appeal To Audible

Please remaster and release this book with the original Douglas Adam's narration. Martin Freeman is objectively good. His narration is very competent. Absolutely terrific actor, seems like a really lovely man, but who he isn't is Douglas Adams.

Adam's is one of a kind. His writing is uniquely his own and his narration is so good because he is singular. No one else is like him. His delivery is how he wanted it to be heard. His character voices are how he heard them. It's dripping with intention. Its a touch dated and there's hiss, but that's what remastering is for. It's brilliant, AND, people would buy it. 50th anniversary is around the corner. There's time to track down the master reels and start scrubbing.

Some authors shouldn't do the narration for their work. Looking at you Stephen king. In the case of Adams, no one else should do it.
