About this listen
A corrupt corporation. Ruthless assassins. Will the family that runs together… die together?
Fifteen-year-old Zach Monaghan has a target on his back. In the witness protection program for his father’s whistleblowing, he’s now run away, back to his old home in Chicago. Zach wants to get back to his friends and to Lindsey, the girl he’d met right before being whisked off in the middle of the night. But escaping his fake identity won’t last long if two contract killers catch up to him…
Big Joe Gorski has climbed the ladder from street thug to tycoon. Now he’s got it all - riches - status - police, and politicians in his pocket. But life at the top is suddenly unsteady and one slip can bring it all down. With a scheming partner, politicians who won’t stay bought and Feds breathing down his neck, Gorski has to move carefully. But being careful goes against his nature. He’s a raging bull and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep what he has … let the bodies fall where they will.
As the ruthless killer draws closer to Zach, surviving the greedy corporate plot may force the whole family to get their hands bloody…
The Runaway is a fast-paced thriller with dizzying twists and turns. If you like non-stop action, high-stakes tension, and large casts of compelling characters, then you’ll love Peter Thompson’s gripping novel.

Story
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

What else could go wrong?
I listen to this one very quickly. The title does not lie and it is nonstop action from the very start to the very end. There is never a chance to catch your breath. One thing in particular I like very much was the mention of very famous Chicago landmarks and various neighbourhoods throughout the Chicagoland region. I was rooting for our characters throughout the whole story. There’s a good mix from the annoying all the way to the loveable and each character plays on each other very nicely. I did want a little bit more involvement from some secondary characters but overall it was very well written. There were even some stereotypes in this book that I found to be quite fitting. Everything even wrapped up in a nice neat package at the end too. Could I guess what was going to happen next at times… Maybe but that is what I liked about this book. I think this would make an excellent blockbuster movie. The performance was done very very well. This is my third book by this narrator and he does not disappoint. He’s got that something about his voice that just adds to the tension. Whether it was being dark and sinister like are criminals or young and energetic like our teenage main character he did a fantastic job voicing both. I even like the way he portrayed characters when they were yelling or screaming as it sounded very realistic. Overall a very enjoyable listen for me.

Another solid thriller from Peter Thompson
I must say I am becoming quite the fan of Mr. Thompson. While I liked his first book, Living Proof, more (and I highly recommend it!), The Runaway is still a fun and wild ride. It has an exciting fast paced story with a solid cast. I won't post any story spoilers, the product description does a great job of letting you know what the story is about, but I will say I found Zach's actions-Zach being our 15 year old 'hero'-to be fairly believable, at least at the start of the story. Being 15 and suddenly being forced away from everything you know, I could totally see this kid 'running away' the way he does. It's a fun story and would probably make a good movie. I've already picked up Thompson's newest book, Hit Me, on my kindle, but I'll probably end up snagging the audible version as well simply because I find myself listening to more books these days over actually finding the time to sit and read.
As always Gary Tiedemann does a great job with the narration. He really brings the story to life. If you enjoy his work here, as well as checking out the other Peter Thompson novels, you may also want to check out the work he's done narrating Jeff Menapace's Bad Games series. It's a great series and Gary's narration work on those is fantastic.

A bit predictable...
Runaway is a good book though it is kind of predictable. I think Peter Thompson's first book Living Proof is so much better. That book has such a unique and original storyline.
Anyway, the publisher's summary for Runaway is pretty comprehensive so I won't add to it.
I will buy more from this author, I'm curious to see what his next book will be.
Gary Tiedemann does a great job narrating.

Amazing Story
This audio book kept me enthralled 100% of the time. When I arrived at work each morning, I hated to turn it off.
The Runaway is an amazing story from an amazing author. I've listened to his two other audio books and they were equally praiseworthy. Hurry up with the next book, Peter!

Surprisingly great!
I normally stay away from action-type audiobooks and ebooks. However, I'm really happy I didn't skip by The Runaway. Peter J. Thompson really turns up the thriller feel that really kept me fascinated the entire time. I enjoyed the various characters. Now there is a lot of characters but I never once did I feel lost with who was who it who was doing what. I really liked it and felt the thrill of it through the entire nearly 11 hours.
The narrator, Gary Tiedemann was fantastic! Really. I was amazed with his storytelling. He has this voice that I could listen to for hours. He's pleasant sounding and still captures so the emotions and attitudes perfectly! Add this 5 star narration to such smooth writing with a story that has everything!

Runs well but then...
Good if too simplistic of a story. First half is stronger, then it does get repetitive as it winds down to the conclusion. New-to-me writer, I much preferred his first book Living Proof that I also just listened to. Solid narrator has the right tone and voice for this.

Thompson delivers a heart-pounding thrill ride in The Runaway. All the characters are well thought out with complex stories if their own. It is an edge of your seat, thrilling, suspense, novel. I look forward to checking out other works by this author.
The narrator, Gary Tiedemann, really made this story come to life. He individualized each character and made them seem authentic. The heightened suspense kept me on edge.

Action Packed
This was an action packed adventure. It was entertaining the whole ride. The story doesn't just focus on one character but rather it jumps around and let's you in on what is going on overall. The narrator helps keep the action moving and conveyed to story well. Overall I definitely recommend you give it a listen.

Fast Paced, Fun Read(Listen)
This book was fast paced and an enjoyable listen. It never really slowed down or got bogged down as some books do. Gary Tiedemann did a great job with the narration and gave each character a different and appropriate voice which really brought them to life. The story was interesting and I enjoyed how it was written from the perspective of the many different characters which kept things fresh and interesting. I felt some of the characters and side stories could have been the basis of their own books and exploits. There were some actions by characters in the book that I thought were pretty foolish and unrealistic but in life people do stupid and irrational things all the time so I suppose it isn't completely unrealistic, but that aside it never took me out of the story.
