About this listen

Twelve-term Texas Congressman, Presidential candidate, and #1 New York Times best-selling author Ron Paul returns with a highly provocative treatise about how we need to fundamentally change the way we think about America's broken education system in order to fix it.

Whether or not you have children, you know that education is vital to the prosperity and future of our society. Yet our current system simply doesn't work. Parents feel increasingly powerless, and nearly half of Americans give our schools a grade of "C". Now, in his new book, Ron Paul attacks the problem head-on and provides a focused solution that centers on strong support for home schooling and the application of free market principles to the American education system. Examining the history of education in this country, Dr. Paul identifies where we've gone wrong, what we can do about it, and how we can change the way we think about education in order to provide a brighter future for Americans.

Enlightening and Encouraging

My daughter isn't even 2 years old yet, but homeschooling has always been something we've considered. After looking into the expensive local private schools and listening to this, I'm now convinced that there is no other viable alternative for my family. More importantly, this book has helped me feel more confident in my own ability to provide the type of quality education that my kids deserve. Thanks for all you do, Ron!

Great Book with Realistic Solutions

I love how Dr. Paul first takes you through the history of education and schooling to give you insight to how we got where we are today. I'm convinced that public schools don't have our children's best interest in mind. my child will be home schooled and I look forward to using the Ron Paul Cirriculum as my guide.

Very enlightening and eye opening

This audiobook made me aware of a lot problems with taxpayer-funded schools, and alternatives available for school choice.

So good I ordered the book

I wish every member of our state school board and local district boards would get this book and digest it. There is a revolution happening in education as parents wake up to not being trapped in a one-size-fits-all system. This book shares important principles and gives great ideas to parents and educators on things that can be done to provide a better and cheaper education for our children.

Interesting Insight

Some great insight into schooling. Paul investigates common problems with public, private, parents, and universities. He gives statistics and cost analysis of that students get and fail to receive despite payment. He points out what the agenda is of the government in terms of the current public schooling system and makes a compelling argument against it. He offers great alternatives.

He does however, really push the idea of homeschooling being superior. He then recommends his course to adopt as a curriculum. The scores and data show that Homeschooled children perform better on national CLEP exams and are often excellent competitors on Spelling Bee teams and other science fair teams and competitions. He does not however, even touch on the topic of social inclusion. I love the freedom associated with homeschooling but I question the necessary social skills that develop at public or private schools. We all know a very bright homeschooled student but is clearly missing social development.

That is not to say that the public and private schooling system is best. He identifies countless flaws and offers alternatives to correct them. It’s unfortunate that it is likely that only Libertarians will read this book, as the issues he points out aren’t necessarily libertarianism problems, though he makes it clear that that’s the basis of his thought.

A recommended read for all, Libertarian or not.
