Publisher's summary

Private investigator Cormoran Strike must track down a missing writer - and a sinister killer bent on destruction - in this "wonderfully entertaining" mystery (Harlan Coben, New York Times Book Review) that inspired the acclaimed HBO Max series C.B. Strike.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him. When Quine is found brutally murdered under bizarre circumstances, Strike must race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any he has encountered before...

A compulsively readable crime novel with twists at every turn, The Silkworm is the second in J. K. Rowling's highly acclaimed series featuring Cormoran Strike and his determined young assistant, Robin Ellacott.

Love the overall Strike series. Have read them all.

The Silkworm is a tad too ‘graphic’ for my reading pleasure. I therefore skipped key sections and likely missed some of the Robert Galbraith’s phenomenal character development.

Incredible

I’ve read several reviews from folks saying that this work was boring and no good. I’m here to refute such statements on the observation that people today have been spoon fed the notion that if they aren’t entertained The from the get-go, than it isn’t worth it. Set up is what this author is all about. If an individual is unable to endure the slow and thoughtful build up of this author, than they should probably just not read at all. I thoroughly enjoyed all of this listen. Anyone who is able to stomach a little bit of grotesque picturing, and get to meat of this novel, will not be disappointed. Characters and all…perfection.

Love this writer and Strike

I have loved this author , his stories and especially the narrator. But that being said this particular story was difficult to keep up with ... it was a bit taxing, happy when it was over. Oh dear!

Plot

At the end would’ve been nice to hear the thought process that got Strike to suspect Liz (what he shared with Robin or Anise)

Hard to Put Down

The author once again grabs your attention and holds it to the end. The relationship between Robin and Cormorant seems at first to disappear behind a storm of vulgarity and the repeated graphic description of a horrible murder, but the persistent reader is rewarded with a satisfying conclusion.

Reader Outstanding

Robert Glenister does a magnificent job as the narrator of the second Robert Galbraith Cormoran Strike novel/mystery. The story is compelling and complex enough to warrant at least a second listen, but Glenister's performance puts it in the top two or three of all the many Audible recordings I've listened to. His mastery of a huge variety of accents, vocal character and even gender is astounding, but it takes pulling back from listening to realize how good he really is - while he's talking, the listener is thinking only of the story and the characters. Robert Galbraith has a worthy partner in bringing Cormoran Strike to life!
