About this listen
Wine is a wonderful, lavish, and mysterious gift from God.
Gisela Kreglinger, the daughter of a vintner and trained as theologian, invites us to discover wine as part of a more full-bodied Christian spirituality. She shows us how the soulful savoring of wine is God's way of wooing us back into a great love affair. Indeed, Jesus's first miracle was turning water into wine at a wedding. Along with bread, wine is the gift we receive at the table of communion. Through these gifts we experience God's glorious and loving presence among us, feeding and nurturing us in body, soul, and spirit.
Wine was never meant just for a small and elite group of well-to-do people but is for us all. Wine can reenchant the world and help us fall in love with it all over again. Come and savor its goodness.

Story
Two dozen select prayer poems to learn from and live with. Poetry and prayer are closely related. We often look to poets to give language to our deepest hopes, fears, losses - and prayers. Poets slow us down. They teach us to stop and go in before we go on. They play at the edges of mystery, holding a tension between line and sentence, between sense and reason, between the transcendent, and the deeply, comfortingly familiar. When Poets Pray contains thoughtful meditations by Marilyn McEntyre on choice poems/prayers and poems about prayer.

Story
If Jesus called himself the "bread of life," why is it that our relationship with food is so complicated? We love it. We hate it. We hate that we love it. Whether we're obsessing over what not to consume - carbs, sugar, alcohol - or what we will devour - fat free, dairy free, gluten free - food has become burdensome. Christian Book Award winner Tilly Dillehay tackles the way we approach food. In Broken Bread, Dillehay identifies the four major food sins and the fears that drive them, and she offers a new way of thinking about food less to focus on more important matters.

For thousands of years, these questions - which span all major spiritual traditions - have served as beacons for spiritual seekers: Who am I? What do I love? How shall I live, knowing I will die? What is my gift to the family of the Earth? As he guides us through these questions, Muller weaves poetry with true stories of love, courage, grief, and transformation in order to show how beauty and wisdom come to us at unexpected times.

Story
Most of us have times when, if we are honest, we’d admit to feeling like our lives are embarrassingly small and insignificant. Times when it seems like we’re going through a whole lot of pain and striving without much to show for it. Like our daily pursuits don’t really matter in the long run. At times like that, we can’t help wondering if we really matter - to the world or even to God. In Chasing Vines, Beth Moore gives us a new hope, revealing the abundant secrets of a fruitful, Kingdom-building, God-pleasing life.

Story
With his trademark blend of storytelling, faith and psychological insight, New York Times best-selling author Thomas Moore turns his attention to the most enduring story of them all: the birth of Christ in Bethlehem. Moore uses passages from the Gospels, archetypal stories and ancient myths to explore the idea that Christmas can only be fully understood as belonging to everyone - as a plan for the entire human race. This may be the most profound reflection on the meaning of Christmas in a generation.

Sometimes it seems we just can't get what we want. Circumstances thwart our best-laid plans. We struggle to live a heartfelt life. Worst of all, says Eldredge, the modern church mistakenly teaches its people to kill desire (calling it sin) and replace it with duty or obligation (calling it sanctification).

What is it that you long for? Dream about? Hunger after? We all desire more than just the endurance of our daily routines. But often we feel limited and stuck - like we're merely existing instead of living. That's not the way it was meant to be. God intends the humanity in each of us to be deeply experienced, lavishly enjoyed, and exuberantly celebrated. In fact this is what the Gospel is all about. Yes, the Gospel.

Story
In Prototype, Jonathan Martin creates a vivid understanding of what it means to be God's beloved. To completely trust, as Jesus did, that God loves us. To live without fear, confident in our identity and purpose. To handle life's wounds as Jesus did, and to wake every day with a deep awareness of God's presence. Martin reveals a startling truth at the heart of the gospel: Jesus is our prototype. And as we discover how the knowledge of being God's beloved changed everything for Jesus - how it set Him free to live out His purpose and love God, others, and the world - it will begin to do the same for us.

learn and enjoy
i came across this book by chance. I have enjoyed it so much. I kept book marking and relistening to so many verses.
this book is a wonderful study guide to have for a bible lesson and learn about wine in the fellowship of friends. I now have a much better appreciation of wine and the amazing gift from God.
the narrator was wonderful. she kept my interest and very easy to follow.
i will definitely be listening to this over and over.

Great book on a little discussed topic
As a southern Christian, the topic of alcohol and wine in particular is often discouraged. You can be shamed and looked down upon if people in your church know you drink wine sometimes. That may be a generalization, but I'd say most Christians in the Southern US have felt some form of this in their life, especially if they attend a Baptist or fundamentalist church. But I found freedom and understanding by reading this book and how we can truly tie in the wonders of wine and how it ties into the Bible over and over again. Gisela does a great job at grounding why wine is so important in the Bible and how you can enjoy it responsibly and how wine can help you get closer to God's creation and open your soul.
