Publisher's summary

During the Salem Witch Trials over four hundred years ago, Ezekiel and Jeremiah Turner stumbled upon the knowledge needed to tap into unused parts of the human brain. What they discovered was the ability to telepathically call the soul of their destined soulmate, the one created for them.

Their family secret has been passed down from generation to generation. Jeffrey Turner, aka Rey, a direct descendant of Ezekiel Turner, found his soulmate only to push her away. At 19, a player, and not ready for his destined happily ever after, he threw away the best thing that ever happened to him, or so he thought.

A very good story

This book captured my attention. I struggled listening to it so I picked up the physical copy and really enjoyed it but I just don’t have time to read it so I came back to audible and finished it on here. I am so glad I didn’t Lisabeth and Rey have a good Love sorry but I enjoyed hearing about the whole family. It brought it together nicely.

Great Story

I was expecting something more intense, but the story was still great. It's well written and narrated, and a very original plotline.

unique and sweet story

I'm a fan of fated mates stories. This was the first I've read that was not involving paranormal shifters and I truly enjoyed the perspective. Very sweet and well written. looking forward to the rest of the series!

not for me

Some parts of this I found very creepy , like obsessed paramours . Nothing creepier than trying to force someone to love you. Ugh!! This was different, but I wouldn't be interested in continuing the series. A bit too much for me. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was good.

Dream of meeting a solmate

This is a nice romantic story. Most people dream of meeting their soul mate, and the main characters are lucky to experience it.
The events of this book are from the current time; however, the reader/listener has an opportunity to get a glimpse of life in earlier times and courting practices.
Even though the narrator was good, she did not have a very distinct male voice for Rey vs. Lisabeth.

The Soulmate Call

Book 1 in The Soulmate Call series - a great start to the series, following the story of Lisabeth and Rey. I don't think I've read a telepathy romance before, but I really enjoyed this one and how it all plays out. Has an interesting and intriguing storyline to hold your interest throughout. Looking forward to reading more in the series.

2.75 ⭐️

The Soulmate Call has a fun premise/plot, but it’s rushed in the execution. I love a story with mind speaking abilities (hi ACOTAR and Empyrean!) and this one had it in spades. That said, the book started way too fast - chapter 1 being a guy (Rey) cheating on his girlfriend with a girl from work (Lisabeth) then ditching Lis for 6 months, then chapter 2 finding out they’re soulmates immediately. There was simply no build-up or background to what was happening. We did get more background later (and those flashback stories were great), but the immediate jump to love without even forging a relationship at all was a bit much for me. The fact that they were only 18 threw me off too, because it’s just so young. Putting their beginning and age aside, Rey and Lisabeth had a really sweet relationship - they clearly cared about each other and made each other happy, and helped their friends and family discover how to have a deeper connection with each other too.

I’m hoping that we continue to get more background on the telepathic abilities going forward, and I’m excited to see who else gets a story in the series.

The narration of the audiobook was pretty good, but either because of the writing or the way she talked, I got the impression that we were in an alternate reality where contractions don’t exist. Every single time the narrator said “do not,” “cannot” or “who is” instead of “don’t,” “can’t,” or “who’s,” I cringed. And it was a no contraction zone for approximately 11 hours. I had to take breaks in between chapters because I was getting frustrated at the prim and proper pronunciation that would’ve sounded so much less stilted if the words weren’t quite so spelled out.

Thank you to the author for the free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Book 1 - Soulmate Call series

So, this is book 1 in Ann's Soulmate Call series and I thought it was a great introduction to the concept. I did however have a few issues...as this was told in a dual point of view - which I usually love, in this case, while I did still love the idea of getting the perspective from both our main characters - Rey and Lisabeth, there was a lot of un necessary repetition. Also, the narration really wasn't my favorite. More monotone and robotic at times - i think a dual narration would have really helped bring these characters to life. All that said, I loved the concept and these characters. Both had some pasts that came back to haunt their HEA but I loved their mutual respect for one another. A great read / listen and I'm looking forward to more!
