About this listen

The sequel to The Rookie, The Starter is a star-spanning coming-of-age space opera combined with the gritty world of organized crime, all set against a backdrop of a far-future professional football league. Nineteen-year-old second-year quarterback Quentin Barnes has overcome racism and unified his team. He led the Ionath Krakens to a lower-tier championship, a championship that earned them promotion into the meat grinder known as "Tier One."

Now, Quentin and his teammates have to compete against the greatest football teams ever assembled, and do far more than just survive each game. As he rebuilds the team in his own image, Quentin's true quest for a Tier One championship begins.

GFL series is pretty damn awesome.

Third time listening to the audio book, I love how much effort Scott puts in for making you feel the football matches.

Best performer ever!

I almost despise Scott Sigler because he makes all other audiobooks sound so boring. The production quality of these books are out of this world! And the story is so captivating. Best audiobook author out there!

Some content missing but not much

my only gripe about this book is that there is a few minutes missing after the halftime section against the ice storm. other than that I love the book

Great series

Book two of the GFL series picks right up where The Rookie ends. Quentin has grown mentally and has brought the team together to work as one. But is it enough to survive in Tier One against the best of the best?

Not often the sequel is better than the original!

Scott manages to continue on the story with no effort. If you didn't know different you'd think he had everything (books 1-5) figured out long before he knew how to type and just did it in a single go. Everything that made the original great is elevated in this follow-up

It drives me nuts when I can't like / support the main character that I'm following but honestly, I love that I don't always support Quentin throughout. I didn't in The Rookie and know that I continue to scream at him internally as time goes on BUT he's written in such as way that it's 100% believable. Between Quentin's goal to become top dog to all of the little things that happen along the way, this is a SOLID second entry and deserves just as much, if not more, attention than the original.

If you haven't heard Scott read to you, you're missing out on what it means to actually have a story told to you. Voices are amazing, sound effects are movie like and the small details (crowd noises, foot stomps, pads hitting) honestly make this ALMOST better than if HBO picked it up for a series
