Publisher's summary

The Story of a Soul conveys St. Therese of Lisieux's "Little Way" of spiritual childhood - her "elevator" to Heaven, as she called it. This method was approved by Pope Pius XI as a way for all to grow in holiness through unfailing confidence and childlike delight in God's merciful love.

Again and again in this audiobook, St. Therese shows us how her "Little Way" of love and trust comes straight from Sacred Scripture.

This audiobook belongs in every Catholic home, for Pope St. Pius X called St. Therese of Lisieux the "greatest Saint of modern times".

Food for the soul

A book so exquisite it should be read again and again. Don’t read - contemplate. It never ages.

Amazing Narration of a Great Book!

The content of this book is very rich and thought proving. It is also inspiring and causing a reader to evaluate his/her way of honoring God. I listened to this book on audible and I have to say that the narration was absolutely outstanding! I am convinced that reading it on my own would make it dry at times, but the performance of the narrator is so perfect and impeccable that it made even the most difficult passages interesting. I never thought of how important the performance of the narrator is before. I surely recommend this book! It's full of love and absolutely incredible insights!

Narrator Comment

Flawed presentation. The syrupy tone of the reader was very distracting at times. She doesn't sound sincere. The speech is very affected and I feel a natural tone of voice would have been perfect,

Please pronounce the last name correctly

I'm just being nit picky, but for goodness sakes learn how to pronounce the last name correctly. I find it strange how the narrator pronounces any other random french word correctly, except for St.Therese's last name. Overall I really like the book and I can get past the performance, but I feel like knowing how to pronounce the last name of the person's whose biography you are reading would be pretty necessary.

Christ, the beloved

Excellent reflections on her love for Jesus and where that took her. Positively not a book for everyone, since her "pursue" of suffering may lead to misinterpretations and more suffering than necessary.

Anyways, it's a very powerful autobiography with a lot of spiritual lessons and gospel interpretations.

The narrator was very pleasing and her voice is soothing. I can almost relate her to Thérèse de Lisieux !

The beauty of the Little Flower

While listening to this spiritual masterpiece, I encountered a great friend in this little saint. Her writing always has something to tell me, and I am always eager to listen. The performance here, in my opinion, truly encapsulates Thérèse childlike attitude. Some complain that it sounds like the narrator is talking down to the reader or that she is talking to children. I can't entirely agree, and I'd suggest listening with this childlikeness in mind.

Wonderful book ruined by narrator

I couldn’t finish the book even though I love the story and St Therese because the narrator has such an insufferable, condescending, contrived intonation. She reads every sentence as if she founds St Therese the most adorable stupid little baby. She (the narrator) seems to be about to burst into laughter with every sentence. EVERY SENTENCE!
While this attitude somewhat could be understandable once or twice, and her “oh how adorable she is haha!” tone would perhaps be somewhat fitting when retelling the events of 5 year old Therese. But she keeps it going through the book. It takes over the whole story.

It also doesn’t even make sense because the book is written in 1st person, so the narrator’s attitude would be that of St Therese. Did she think of herself as the most adorable wonderful thing to ever set foot on planet earth, like the narrator reads it? Definitely not. That’s the point. St Therese had humility and out of that humility grew her love for God. So the narrator is downright disrespectful.
But most of all annoying and impossible to listen to for a whole book.
I will have to find a better recording of this book and try again.
