In the future, most people have very little to worry about. The government provides housing, jobs, and healthcare. Anyone who wants more than just a basic lifestyle can join a Corporate Drama. People by the billions watch these dramas unfold live as each employee is required to fire a single shot through an office wall between eight and nine a.m. with any weapon.

Anyone able to retire (alive) from a Corporate Drama can continue on in the senior citizen version, called “The Hoards.” Combatants battle one another in modified recreational vehicles.

Opal “Mad Dog” Dupree, 77, and her younger sister, Thelma, have won the last five seasons on The Hoards but complacency sets in and allows a newcomer, Uri Dropov, to defeat them. Unsatisfied with the victory alone, Uri convinces the networks to put a fake picture on this year’s highlights disk depicting Opal as a coward. They also add a fake shriek of fear to the disk that booms out whenever anyone presses Opal’s picture. The disk becomes a worldwide success and now Opal and her sister face the prospect of going down in history as a washed up has-beens.

Opal swears vengeance and is helped by her nephew, Mal Darwin. Mal is a world famous Corporate Drama player. While Opal and Thelma prepare for the next season of The Hoards, trouble erupts at Mal’s house. Marge, terrified of losing her son, tries to convince him to stay out of Corporate Dramas. Mal asks him to reject the safety of a government job and reach for something more. Opal and Thelma race to stop Marge before she ruins her son’s life.

Opal learns to get past her fear of looking like a fool and finds that the struggle over the disk revitalizes her, now Uri is going to pay!
