About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A witty and enthralling Regency romance by one of the best-known and most beloved historical novelists.

The legend of the Headless Horseman and a proposed marriage de convenance both have their impact on the mystery of a golden talisman ring and Lord Lavenham's young heir, Ludovic. Neither Sir Tristram Shield nor Eustacie, his young French cousin, shares the slightest inclination to marry one another, yet it is Lord Lavenham's dying wish. For there is no one else to provide for the old man's granddaughter while Ludovic remains a fugitive from justice....

Yet again, Georgette Heyer shows the qualities that made her one of the most successful and best-loved romantic novelists of her age, and why her popularity endures to this day.

My most favorite Heyer

A romantic mystery of absurd proportions this is probably the best Heyer tale. I laughed out loud on my walks. The audio performance was almost perfect. Highly recommended.

Love her grasp of the absurd

I wish I could find more authors that had the gift of illustrating humor out of absurdity. I never walk away disappointed in Georgette Heyer’s work. The narration was superb!

One of Heyer’s best!

This performance was terrific and conveyed the light, funny romantic mystery that Georgette Heyer was so well-known for.

Great audio version

Not Phyllida Nash but still great. Definitely worth the listen. It’s an all time Heyer classic full of humor and subtle undertones. One of my favorites.

Delightful

Some of the best dialogues I’ve encountered in years—funny, witty, and skirting the absurd!

Great plot, wonderful characters.

A masterful writer.

Rich characters

Nothing is to dislike - two thumbs up
The story is unpredictable and the characters as different from each other as possible - very entertaining

Laugh Out Loud Fun!!

Every Regency by Georgette Heyer is just a pleasure to read or listen too. I must admit, however, that I had a hard time getting into The Talisman Ring when I listened to it even a second time. But if you will just give the story time, Ms. Heyer will once again amaze you. Her ability to weave a story, added to which in this story are some great one liners, this becomes consummate entertainment. And add to this the narration by Joe Jameson and you have a winner. Few men narrators can do a truly good job of narrating women’s roles. But Mr. Jameson doesn’t just do a capable job, he does a fantastic job. His narration of Sarah (Miss Vane) and the French accent of the heroine are just spot on. And ALL the male voices are totally distinguishable one from another. And speaking of Sarah, I think she carries the story.. as she is just so “droll”. Any book written by Ms. Heyer and narrated by Mr. Jameson are keepers.

GH’s humor is outstanding!

This was the very first GH novel I ever read and didn’t care for it at all. That was years ago. It was the only one I didn’t like. I am so glad it was talked up so much on a blog that I gave it another chance. It is extraordinary. I literally laughed out loud many times. It is classic Heyer!

My Favorite Heyer

And that’s saying something, in the company of Venetia and The Grand Sophy. This one gives us two very different but equally adorable couples, a mystery and the most hilarious of Georgette’s heroines, a marvelous spoof of the French. It’s also beautifully performed. Fall in love — twice!
