Publisher's summary

In a nondescript office building in suburban Maryland, the firm Hendley Associates does a profitable business in stocks, bonds, and international currencies, but its true mission is quite different: to identify and locate terrorist threats, and then deal with them, in whatever manner necessary. Established with the knowledge of President John Patrick Ryan, "the Campus" is always on the lookout for promising new talent, its recruiters scattered throughout the armed forces and government agencies - and three men are about to cross its radar.

The first is Dominic Caruso, a rookie FBI agent, barely a year out of Quantico, whose decisive actions resolve a particularly brutal kidnap/murder case. The second is Caruso's brother, Brian, a Marine captain just back from his first combat action in Afghanistan, and already a man to watch. And the third is their cousin...a young man named Jack Ryan, Jr.

Jack was raised on intrigue. As his father moved through the ranks of the CIA and then into the White House, Jack received a life course in the world and the way it operates from agents, statesmen, analysts, Secret Service men, and black ops specialists such as John Clark and Ding Chavez. He wants to put it all to work now, but when he knocks on the front door of "the Campus," he finds that nothing has prepared him for what he is about to encounter. For it is indeed a different world out there - and in here. And it is about to become far more dangerous.

Weak Story, Confusing Narration

I've been working through all of Tom Clancy's novels, and I found this one kind of weak. The idea of The Campus is interesting, and the introduction to Jack Ryan Jr and the Caruso brothers was good, but the story was not very exciting. The antagonists were stereotypical Islamists, nothing more. And last, the narration was confusing, because there's no difference between alot of the characters' voices. There were several instances where I couldn't follow who said what in a conversation, especially when it was between the twin brothers. This novel has convinced me to take a break from Clancy, and I hope the next one raises the bar. I can only reccomend this one to die hard Clancy fans.

Great story but....

Really good novel. Unfortunately the guy reading it sounds like Keanu Reeves on downers.

Sound engineer needs to cut files up better

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Not one of the best in the Jack Ryan series so I would say listen only for completeness

Would you be willing to try another one of Stephen Hoye’s performances?

The reader's voice is great but I wish the sound engineer would cut the chapters so that the last sentence doesn't get repeated as the first sentence of the next chapter.

Disappointed

Not a bad story line overall. The narration was a little bit too gumshoe-ish Meaning that he sounded like a late-night detective throughout the narration.
Tom, Your use of profanity and foul language has been a big turn off for me. You are better than this.

Jack Ryan chapter 1, Jack Ryan jr. chapter 2

did a very good job of introducing new characters for the second chapter of this whole series. Jack Ryan jr. picks up the torch with his dad had left off his cousins are there to help him this will be a very good scenario for

Troubled recording

Ok story
Fairly contrived
Good performance not great
BUT
shit recording
1. Frequently repeats itself without any apparent cause
2. When paused, reverts to Chapter 1
3. Says you are on a specific Chapter but you are actually on the previous
4. I spent way to much time trying to figure out where the Hell I left off
Buy and play at your own risk
Caveat emptor
Really

Great book. Odd issue.

Loved this book and the narator! Only odd thing was how every so often it would repeat sections. thought i was hitting the rewind button but i wasnt. It would read a sentence, about 2-3 sexonds of silence, then repeat that sentence and continue on. Wierd.

Repeat issues

There are several instances that a sentence or section is repeated , was a little annoying but other than that was a good book.
