Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In a plush Virginia office, a rich, angry old man is furiously rewriting his will. With his death just hours away, Troy Phelan wants to send a message to his children, his ex-wives, and his minions—a message that will touch off a vicious legal battle and transform dozens of lives.

Nate O'Riley is a high-octane Washington litigator who's lived too hard, too fast, for too long. His second marriage in a shambles, and he is emerging from his fourth stay in rehab armed with little more than his fragile sobriety, good intentions, and resilient sense of humor. Returning to the real world is always difficult, but this time it's going to be murder.

Rachel Lane is a young woman who chose to give her life to God, who walked away from the modern world with all its strivings and trappings and encumbrances, and went to live and work with a primitive tribe of Indians in the deepest jungles of Brazil.

In a story that mixes legal suspense with a remarkable adventure, their lives are forever altered by the startling secret of The Testament.

Critic reviews

"Grisham's smart use of the suspense novel to explore questions of being and faith puts him squarely in the footsteps of Dickens and Graham Greene." (Publishers Weekly)

Featured Article: The Essential John Grisham in Audio

John Grisham is best known for his fast-paced legal thrillers and mysteries, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Because he’s so prolific and has been writing for decades, it can be difficult to know where to begin when selecting a title from his impressive back catalog. And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

GREAT STORY

Seems to be very inspired by the Getty fortune, but an outstanding story, and Frank Mueller was the perfect story teller.

wickedly good

What a devious mind Troy has and the tangle it creates. Could be a case study in human behavior if it was true.

touching

The story was fantastic, as was the narration. John grisham did a fine job with this one, I wish he would go back and rediscover what made him such a good author. Well worth the listen.

Great book, best narrator

Would you listen to The Testament again? Why?

Yes I would and have??? I bought this book in full library edition from Recorded Books INC. when on audio cassette. I always intended to buy it again on CD, but Now I am an audible patron and thoroughly enjoy audible and John Gresham; I always looked forward to Frank Muller???s narrations. The combination of both John Gresham and Frank Muller is unbeatable.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes

Best

I've read almost all of Grisham's books, the Testament is one of his best. The book starts out slow and drags a little bit, but Grisham wraps up the story nicely. I give it 4.4 out of 5.

Great Surprise Ending

If you could sum up The Testament in three words, what would they be?

Captivating, Fast Paced

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nate O'Reilly. As a Lawyer, I have seen and experienced the same burn out and alcohol used to relieve the stress.

What does Frank Muller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Brings each character to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Did not want to cut it off to go to work

Any additional comments?

One of Gresham's best!
