Publisher's summary

When the teenage daughter of a powerful Washington, D.C., judge is found dead, three local black kids are arrested for her murder - but reporter Sully Carter suspects there's more to the case. From the city's grittiest backstreets to the elegant halls of power, wry yet wounded Sully pursues a string of cold cases, all the while fighting against pressure from government officials, police, suspicious locals, and his own bosses at the newspaper. Based on the real-life 1990s Princeton Place murders, Neely Tucker' s debut novel is a pitch-perfect rendering of a fast-paced newsroom and a layered, edge-of-your-seat mystery sure to please fans of Elmore Leonard and George Pelecanos.

Good Read

As I listened I was drawn into the poverty region of D.C., something you rarely read about. Kept me guessing almost to the end! Would recommend!

Wonderfully descriptive and paints a perfect picture of every person and setting. Engaging story and surprising ending.

Great characters combined with a terrific plot

I definitely didn't see where this was going. The characters come alive definitely drawing the reader/listened into the story. The protagonist apparently comes back on sequels. This was good enough to me in. Well read.

Thank you Michael Connelly

Any additional comments?

Just a great story, well told. I was a little bummed by the end but that's okay. Thank you to the Great Michael Connelly for recommending this book. You were absolutely right.

Hard to shut off!

This book got me through grocery trips, drives, and work. Every chance I had to listen. Loved its twists and turns I didn’t see coming.

Unfortunate combination: Writing style & narration

I downloaded this book after seeing it recommended by those who listened to the Michael Connolly series. It unfortunately does not meet the standard set by the aforementioned books. The narrative style and delivery makes it difficult to track the story. I made it 3 chapters before throwing in the towel.

Awful.

What would have made The Ways of the Dead better?

The storyline did not appeal to me, so that is part of why I gave it a low rating. Absolutely didn't appeal to me.

Would you ever listen to anything by Neely Tucker again?

Perhaps, I would listen to something again if the story line was better….its a big jump for me to say that.

What didn’t you like about Scott Sowers’s performance?

The storyline wasn't good and the performance did not enhance the storyline.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Ways of the Dead?

Frankly, I wouldn't have published this book.

How many crass cusswords can go on the printed pag

What disappointed you about The Ways of the Dead?

Seems like the headline for this review was the author's goal. The plot was shaky and not plausible. Disjointed. Don't bother!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Scott Sowers?

This reader has trouble reading ahead to the next line to make the text cogent. He hesitates at the end of each line as if it's the end of a sentence/thought. His voice is very monotone.
