Story
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

Pure brain candy
If you are an avid Pendergast fan, you will like this one. It answers a few questions and develops the Constance character. The purpose of this series is entertainment. If you want "reality" there are good documentaries out there. Pendergast is spiritual and rather ethereal and you just have to accept the premise to appreciate the stories. Just hang on and enjoy the ride. It's pure entertainment. I stayed up half the night to finish it!

Started great...got silly
Rene Auberjonois does a beautiful job as the reader. I love Scott Brick as well, but, once in a while a nice change is good.
I'm generally a big fan of these two writers and this book began really well..I was "into it"..and then...
... it began to get more and more ridiculous as plots go and I was just waiting for it to end. The characters fell into these ridiculous situations...all that evil that befelled them...I just wanted something with more substance.

Disappointed!
Definitely struggled to finish this one, especially after the riveting roller coaster of the Brimstone Trilogy. While I can see that this narrator is very good at narration, he was a COMPLETE letdown with Pendergast's accent and some of the other voices he gave to the characters. I think Scott Brick did the repeat characters in this series MUCH more justice. The story was just 'okay'. I may sadly have to consider skipping books narrated by RA, which is tragic because I really like these authors and the Pendergast series!

Bit dark even for these guys
I don't hate it. It's a good character development book. But at the same time, I felt very sad for much of the time I listened to this book which wasn't fun. If I wanted to feel sad I would turn off the audiobooks and engage in my real life.

STRANDED ON AN OCEAN LINER!
If you could sum up The Wheel of Darkness in three words, what would they be?
SUSPENSE, PANIC, MYSTERY
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wheel of Darkness?
I was pretty frightened for the teen being pursued. Catching scenes really keep me in suspense.
What does Rene Auberjonois bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I really love his many voices, and he has a nice calmness about him. Great for the monks.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Well, I listened to this in 2 days more or less. It really does hold your attention.
Any additional comments?
As with many of the other books in this series ....there is a great mystery to solve, usually in a very urgent manner and at the very end, it's all wrapped up nicely. I did like all the description about being on an ocean liner since I never have myself. I also loved the addition of all of the characters in this book and how they each have a little history added.
I felt a little of it dragged in some parts but maybe that was just me.
