Publisher's summary

If only I hadn't kidnapped the dog...but the ransom paid the mortgage.... Now I seem to be a private eye.... I shouldn't have listened to that ghost....

Meet Sarah Booth Delaney...an unconventional Southern belle whose knack for uncovering the truth is about to make her the hottest detective in Zinnia, Mississippi...if it doesn't make her the deadest. No self-respecting lady would allow herself to end up in Sarah Booth's situation. Unwed, unemployed, and over 30, she's flat broke and about to lose the family plantation. Not to mention being haunted by the ghost of her great-great-grandmother's nanny, who never misses an opportunity to remind her of her sorry state - or to suggest a plan of action, like ransoming her friend's prize pooch to raise some cash.

But soon Sarah Booth's walk on the criminal side leads her deeper into unladylike territory, and she's hired to solve a murder. Did gorgeous, landed Hamilton Garrett V really kill his mother 20 years ago? And if so, what is Sarah Booth doing falling for this possible murderer? When she asks one too many questions and a new corpse turns up, she is suddenly a suspect herself...and Sarah Booth finds that digging up the bones of the past could leave her rolling over in her grave.

Mystery at its finest

What did you love best about Them Bones?

The character was transformed beautifully from a woman needing a job, to a young detective. The plot was excellent and this book became a fast read.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, the author did an amazing job keeping the pace fast and the plot thick so you didn't know what would happen next and the clues kept piling up.

Which character – as performed by Kate Forbes – was your favorite?

This book stayed with the main character throughout, and the narrator did an excellent job with her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I was constantly wanting people around me to stop talking so much so I could finish the audiobook.

Any additional comments?

Definitely a great read, a great mystery, and generally mystery is not my preferred subject (though I did love Sherlock Holmes). I will definitely pick up the next book in the series and continue watching the character grow.

Love!

Love! Period. Love! The humor. The voice. The narrator. LOVED!

I'm not normally a series girl (having gotten burnt out of them 10 plus years ago), but I'm buying more of these!

Amazing to the very end!!!

I didn't know what to expect as I started down this southern path of entertainment, but oh my! This enlightened journey, enhanced with soothing narration, has proven a great beginning to my summer reading. Rich in "color" with enough twists to make the bayou jealous, I can't wait to delve into book three! Yummmmmy Big Daddy Girl!

Mississippi Murders

I think with all the skeletons in the closets of Zinias residents, they might need to rename the town to Tombstone.Very intriguing and interesting, but also a bit hard to follow with so many characters and suspects and stories intertwining with each other,it’s turned into a Spicy Southern Stew.If I were Sarah,I wouldn’t be so quick to help out the same people who have given her a hard time with her situation.Hopefully love will find her in her next story.

Made it through but only because I was listening while cleaning.

If it wasn’t free I would have been upset. The only good bit was the last hour and a half. The rest was incredibly slow and annoying. Her womb …. Seriously enough it’s tilted and you might want a kid … get over it already! Two outs of the book would be gone if you cut all those sentences out.

Pretty Good

I related to the character's marital situation and had no problem with the word "womb" as other reviewers apparently did, as it fit with the storyline. The main character does something in the beginning that I had trouble with but was necessary for the ending. Her unconventional friend (a ghost) almost made me stop listening, as I do not like "spooky" stories, but she was cute. It was a fun listen while working around the house.

This was a interesting new series. A little different. But, I liked it. As I read it really grew on me and I found myself laughing. Looking forward to the other books.
