Publisher's summary

This touching and hilarious memoir is 100 percent Carol Burnett—funny, irreverent, and irresistible.Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved and revered actresses and performers in America. The Carol Burnett Show was seen each week by millions of adoring fans and won twenty-five Emmys in its remarkable eleven-year run.

Now, in This Time Together, Carol really lets her hair down and tells one funny or touching or memorable story after another. In engaging anecdotes, Carol discusses her remarkable friendships with stars such as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Cary Grant, and Julie Andrews; the background behind famous scenes, like the moment she swept down the stairs in her curtain-rod dress in the legendary “Went with the Wind” skit; and things that would happen only to Carol—the prank with Julie Andrews that went wrong in front of the First Lady; the famous Tarzan Yell that saved her during a mugging; and the time she faked a wooden leg to get served in a famous ice cream emporium. This poignant look back allows us to cry with the actress during her sorrows, rejoice in her successes, and finally, always, to laugh.

Critic reviews

"These short memories, of the people Burnett met and interviewed over the years, on- and off-camera, bring it back — the golden age of variety shows....Burnett has a writer's eye for the moment, the detail, the slip that reveals character. She's never mean and always grateful."—Los Angeles Times

"Carol was a huge star on television because she was funny, daring, and always genuine. We loved Carol because we felt we knew her. With this book, we do. She trusts us with her personal anecdotes, happy, sad, hilarious and poignant. Thank you Carol. "—Billy Crystal

"I read This Time Together in one sitting and when I finished I felt like Carol had been sitting beside me telling me these wonderful stories of her life. It's funny, it's endearing and very moving. I cannot recommend it highly enough."—Julie Andrews

So Amazing

Carol Burnett has lived an amazing life. She has intimately known so many that have become historic and classic film and television personalities. Her variety show can still make you laugh so hard your face hurts. This audiobook, read by Carol herself, tells the story of her journey from a poor non-working actress and singer to the most successful comedic variety show on television. There are times I was laughing out loud and times I was crying without shame, all while feeling I was sitting on the couch across from Carol listening to her story. Buy this book. Don't forget the Kleenex!

Carol reads Carol Burnett This Time Together!

What made the experience of listening to This Time Together the most enjoyable?

That Carol read the book herself. You get to hear the highs and lows in her owe words, I would not of bought the book if I did love the actress, now I got to hear her as a human being with some funny moments and some sad moments too.

What was one of the most memorable moments of This Time Together?

Spoilers************************************************************************************Kissing Julie Andrews to crack up either Julie Husband or Carol's I can't remember but the scene is so very funny waiting out side the elevator just kissing as it opens up and it keeps being the wrong people and how. And it's so very funny. I couldn't stop laughing. I was coughing and turning red from laughing so very hard.

Have you listened to any of Carol Burnett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Just her TV show. never a book on tape, I will have to look for others, she was great.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Boy did it make me laugh, or sometimes just smile, I enjoyed this whole book even the sad parts where my heart was breaking for her. It must be hard to loose a daughter, I know it was hard for me to loose my father I can't image loosing a daughter.

Fantastic

Would you consider the audio edition of This Time Together to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version, but I found the book very special with Carol Burnett herself narrating the book.

What did you like best about this story?

Carol fills in the background of how she got started in the entertainment world and brings those she worked with into the story with her. You feel like you really get to know her.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did a little crying when Carol was talking about seeing her Dad for the last time and when her Nana died. And a lot of smiling and laughing as she talks about her shows and remember watching them!

An absolute joy!

I'm so glad a chose Carol's This Time Together as my first Audile book. It brought back so many wonderful memories of watching her show as a teenager. I loved hearing about the stars with which she was so close and those that were not so close. Thank you Ms. Burnett for so many years of laughter!

Good book, not a spell binding read

The title pretty well describes the book. She talks about all the people she worked with thru the years.
