Critic reviews

"Not for the squeamish reader, this is a powerful novel that takes a new angle on a popular subject, 'the war to end all wars'." (Amazon.com review)
“Friendship is riven with resentment and war is stripped of glory in this remarkable, wrenching novel, the work of a gifted storyteller.” ( Publishers Weekly)

A fantastic read/listen!

A well told story, if a bit violent in parts. The friendship between two brothers of Indian descent amidst the turmoil of WWI

Orenda

Orenda is still my favorite but Joseph Boyden captured the time and freed the spirit here.

A bridge between worlds

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The Anishinaabe perspective of WWI and the continuation of the world they came from to the world they experienced was a powerful lesson in how our culture and ancestry creates the world we live in.

A true Canadian Writer to be proud of.

The writing and reading make it one of those books you can't leave until it's done. Then the book hangover as you don't want to let go of these characters, these words, for awhile, as they stay close to you.

Amazing story. I couldn't stop listening

I cannot imagine not listening to this story. The reader was incredible. I truly felt like I was listening him to tell his story. He sounded like he was a Cree Indian which greatly enhanced the listening experience. The author did a wonderful job of telling a difficult story. I will remember this story for a long time.

Great cultural adventure!

Would you listen to Three Day Road again? Why?

Three Day Road depicts many theme's and stories that are important to Ojibwa/Cree culture in a new innovative way.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Three Day Road?

The theme of the Wendigo throughout the story.

What three words best describe Ruth Ann Phimister’s performance?

Poor pronunciation of Cree and Ojibwa (It made me laugh)

Who was the most memorable character of Three Day Road and why?

Niska is a character that is a healer and Elder that brings some glimmer of hope when things are darkest.

Any additional comments?

Not only does this story bring to light the residential school system and the racism native face everyday. It also is a story rich with culture and teachings. I would recommend anyone interested in the history and culture of the Cree/Ojibwa should read this book. It is also an amazing story on its own.

Amazing story loved every moment!

Loved the Novel. Nothing bad to say. I highly recommend this read to others. The narrator is alright even thought I cannot pinpoint my complaints in them.

Beautifully Painful

This is my second Joseph Boyden story. the first was 'The Orenda'. Joseph has a powerful gift for drawing his audience deeply into the lives, feelings, triumphs and struggles of his characters. In each story I have been enthralled, educated, saddened and amazed. But above all I have been fully engaged in and thankful for such beautiful and powerful stories.
