Publisher's summary

Nature's a fickle thing. When four days of rain occur earlier in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice to trap Jane and Elizabeth Bennet at Netherfield Park, new romances, misunderstandings, and alignments are made. Volatile tempers never did well cooped up together. Not even when there's a chessboard to help pass the time. Fall in love with the romance of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet all over again in this new variation by author Elizabeth Ann West.

The story from a Darcy’s perspective was excellent

I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Having a story mainly from Darcy’s perspective was very different and thoroughly enjoyable. I did not enjoy the narrator. There was something about her voice that just did not lend itself well to the various characters, especially the women.

The Games of Love!

A variation on the beloved Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen with all the known characters but a rearranged storyline including a chess game, a detailed extended stay at Netherfield Park, and a confrontational Ball. It’s an interesting enough rearrangement, though the personalities of various characters seem more pronounced. Elizabeth seems more aggressive, more fickle, and a bit bolder. Mr. Bennet is more astute; Caroline Bingley is cattier and Mr. Collins is more aggressive and odious. Overall, it an average, interesting read.

good story. not my favorite narrator

it was a good story, but I would have enjoyed it more with a different narrator. there were a few times when it repeated a part of the story that had just been read. I expected more from audible.

delightful

I have read several different versions of pride and prejudice and I think this is one of my favorites. It takes the story several places I kept wanting the story to go.
The narrator is just fine. I'm not terribly fond of her voice for males but it's not bad.

Masculine Voices Need Work

The narrator is fairly good at feminine voices, but her masculine voices sound too old for Darcy and Bingley. Fun story!

An OK Pride and Prejudice Variation

I enjoyed this take on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, although I wasn't thrilled with the various voices of the narrator for the men.
The plot was interesting and it definitely kept my attention. I listened to the end but I probably will not read this book again.
A clean, regency romance.

A game of chess played while learning to love

Where does To Capture Mr. Darcy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The book was an awesome read. The audiobook lacks something to make the characters come to life the way others have done for me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mr. Bingley was so happy and oblivious to Darcy attraction to Elizabeth and Caroline obsession with the couple. His character never fails to amaze me.

What aspect of Nina Price’s performance would you have changed?

I’m not a fan sorry to say. Darcy, Lizzy, Jane, the Bingleys should come to life and she missed the mark.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I usually don’t stop listening to a book once I start, so I’m unsure if I count. I look forward to more of Elizabeth Ann West audiobooks, maybe with a new narrator.

Any additional comments?

If I can make a recommendation to anyone interested in Pride and Prejudice variations, all of the authors books make for excellent reads. I have never been disappointed.

Enjoyable variation!

In this Pride and Prejudice variation, Lizzy and Jane are rained in during their stay at Netherfield Park. With four extra days with Bingley and Darcy, Lizzy and Jane learn more about their suitors and come a little closer to understanding each other.

I really enjoyed this one! With four extra days together, Lizzy and Darcy spent a lot of time on the page together, and their conversations were always fun. I loved that Lizzy was able to show her intelligence to Darcy with the chess match. Lady Catherine and Mr. Collins were awful versions of themselves, but luckily Darcy and a very sweet Mr. Bennet were there to save the day. I'll be reading this one again.

The narrator, in my opinion, wasn't the best choice for this story, I do prefer a British accent for the Pride and Prejudice variations. I would recommend listening to the sample before purchasing. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

An enjoyable book

I read this book years ago and really enjoyed it.

It feels like the narrator is reading the book rather than performing the story. There were a few awkward stop/starts and repeated phrases that should have been caught in editing - that is not the narrator's fault!

I think I have read every book by this author, and will listen to the rest of the books I own by her, but will not purchase more with this narrator.

Narrator was awful

Quit within the first chapter. The narrator was terrible. Gave story 3 starts because I had to rate it, and I didn’t want to either give a misleading high rating for a book I couldn’t listen to, or short the author for her narrator’s performance. I’ll try the kindle edition instead.
