Publisher's summary

This is a standalone story that can be listened to without reference to any other novel but it includes the main characters from The Assassin, The Grey Man and the Surgeon by DC Stansfield.

"Question," said the Grey Man to the Assassin. "How do you kill a man who hides in a crowd?"

"Answer," said The Assassin to The Grey Man. "Kill the crowd."

The Grey Man is a legend in the covert world of espionage. He has complete control over the powerful organization called "The Firm" which supplies the infrastructure for all the Secret Service departments across Europe. Sir Thomas Robertson, "C", head of MI6 wants that control for himself.

The findings of a routine medical show the Grey Man is going blind. Sir Thomas realizes this is the break he needs and decides to have him murdered.

However, it is not as simple as killing one old, blind man. The Grey Man has two friends, who he has worked with for decades and are the best in the business. One an assassin, who has been dealing death for nearly 30 years and the other a breaker of men, nicknamed the Surgeon, so vicious, it is rumored every time he hits a man he cuts him.

Taking no chances, Sir Thomas calls on all his resources including the shadowy figure of John Sea who runs a large part of the UK underworld. "I want them all dead," he declares.

So begins a life and death chase across the South of England.

Can these three men on the verge of retirement take on the Underworld, the Firm and the Secret Service?

What is understood by all, is that this is a game for high stakes and people are going to die!

Brilliant

A beautifully written tale of an old gentlemanly Grey Man & his two, old very deadly friends. The story is written in a genteel manner that disguises utter ruthlessness, but somehow manages to convey honour the British way. Excellent!

Length of story

The story its self was a little short. So there could of been more content . and it was a rather abrupt ending

To miss is to die!

This volume focuses on The Grey Man; background, some highlights of his thirty-year career, along with efforts made to end his reign of best-of-the-best. Although this is a stand-alone book, it does include all the main characters from “The Assassin, The Grey Man and The Surgeon”. Even The Grey Man can’t avoid the conditions of his body growing old. When glaucoma and the potential threat of blindness are detected, this information is leaked to his enemies. With this advantage in hand, all efforts are made to not only eliminate The Grey Man but The Assassin and The Surgeon as well. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Must listen to on Chipmunk speed

Seeing that my wife & I picked this book up as a promo, we felt obligated to do a review. I can honestly say that after listening to the first book, we both dreaded the thought.
But she dutifully pressed the play button and put the narration on maximum speed. OMG what an improvement.
Had this book been billed as a comedy or parody we would have given it a two or more likely three star, but sadly it was not.
Do not go into this book thinking you will get a serious story.
While the title and cover are wonderful, the plot is laughable.

Irony in the British Secret Service

This is my first novel by this British author. I really do not know what to think. It's entertaining, but if there is a message here beyond irony I missed it. There is lots of action, violence and suspense, but the Grey Man survives and regains his eyesight. I should have listened to the two earlier books in the series first. Kindle readers rate it 4.4 stars. Narration is excellent. I do not plan to return it but it is not worth the price even with Kindle Unlimited.
